The inevitable finally happened: Paige Bueckers, one of college basketball’s most electrifying players, was selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft by the Dallas Wings. The pick may not have been a surprise, but the moment was no less special. With her family, teammates, and legendary UConn coach Geno Auriemma by her side, Bueckers watched her name flash on screen and took her first steps as the new face of the Wings franchise.
The tears, the cheers, and the emotion told the story of a player who battled through injuries and expectations to reach the top. Bueckers, who missed an entire season due to an ACL tear, returned to college basketball stronger and more determined, capping her career with a national championship. On draft night, the journey came full circle.

An emotional thank you and a taste for Tex-Mex
Moments after hearing her name, Bueckers joined ESPN’s Holly Rowe for a courtside interview that was equal parts touching and hilarious. When asked what message she had for Dallas and its fans, the Minnesota native didn’t hesitate.
“Dallas, I’m so excited! Just a new city, a new start, a fresh start. And so I’m excited. Let’s get it!” she said, beaming. Before that, she joked that she’s more into Tex-Mex than Texas BBQ, a comment that instantly made her relatable to her new home crowd.
The Dallas Wings draft room erupted in cheers as they watched the interview, clearly confident they had just secured a generational talent with star power both on and off the court.
The new face of the franchise
Bueckers is arriving in Dallas not only as a top pick, but as a transformative player. Her basketball IQ, leadership, and charisma make her an instant fit for a franchise hungry for playoff success. The Wings are betting big on her potential, and with good reason.
As she adjusts to the pro level and the Texas heat, one thing is certain: Paige Bueckers is bringing talent, personality, and a whole lot of heart to the WNBA.

The United States Soccer Federation proposed 14 American sites among 20 possible venues to host games for the 2031 Women's World Cup, including seven U.S. stadiums to be used for next year's men's tournament.FIFA released the bid books Friday for the 2031 and 2035 women's tournaments.
