The 2025 NFL schedule is already generating buzz, and one of the most anticipated games will take place in Week 8, when the Pittsburgh Steelers host the Green Bay Packers. But beyond the clash between two storied franchises, all eyes will be on the quarterbacks: Aaron Rodgers, now at the helm of the Steelers, and his former understudy, Jordan Love.
Love, who spent three seasons backing up Rodgers in Green Bay, has made it clear that he’s thrilled to finally share the field with his mentor – this time as opponents. In an interview with Jason Wilde of Channel3000.com, Love said:

“It’s going to be fun. It’s going to be amazing. I’m excited about it. I can’t wait to be on opposite sides, to meet again, and I know we’ll talk before the game. Hopefully, we can swap jerseys afterward.”
From the bench to the spotlight
Jordan Love was selected in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Packers, a move that stirred controversy given Rodgers’ elite status at the time. Despite initial speculation of a tense dynamic, the relationship turned out to be an invaluable learning experience for Love.
“I definitely appreciate the way A-Rod handled being in that situation. He told me he knew what it was like to be in that same position and wanted to do things differently with me,” Love shared.
During those years, Love had a front-row seat to two MVP seasons from Rodgers (2020 and 2021), soaking in knowledge and building mutual respect.
“We had a great relationship. It was amazing to be in the same room with him and be able to learn. Rodgers was incredible with everything,” he added.
More than just a regular-season game
NFL Week 8 won’t just be another date on the calendar. The Rodgers vs. Love showdown is the culmination of a generational transition that began in Green Bay and now continues on a new stage, with Rodgers wearing black and gold.

That jersey swap may symbolize more than just a postgame ritual – it could serve as a powerful final chapter to a story that began quietly on the Green Bay bench and now finds its climax under the bright lights of the NFL.
