As the 2025 NFL season nears, most eyes continue to be on the Kansas City Chiefs. Although the Philadelphia Eagles are the reigning champions, the Chiefs still dominate the national media conversation due to the presence of Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. Everyone wants to see if they will rebound from a crushing end to their 2024 season.
The front office has made enough moves to put Andy Reid and his team on track to return to The Big Game. A brutal Super Bowl defeat has the potential to end Kansas City’s dynasty, but in the eyes of analysts, it didn’t change much. Mahomes and Reid are still widely considered as the best of the best in the league.

Andy Reid ranked as top head coach by CBS Sports
Despite losing to the Eagles in the Super Bowl, Reid hasn’t relinquished the top head coach spot in rankings. CBS Sports ranked all 32 head coaches, with Reid coming out on top. The top five may be a bit controversial, as Nick Sirianni wasn’t second.
- Andy Reid
- Sean McVay
- John Harbaugh
- Nick Sirianni
- Dan Campbell
It’s clear that Reid is still held in extremely high regard around the NFL. Leading the Chiefs to a fifth Super Bowl in seven seasons will do that.
Patrick Mahomes also ranked No. 1 in quarterback rankings
Reid’s ranking comes a day after Mahomes had been ranked as the top quarterback in the NFL by AP writers. Mahomes finished ahead of Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson and Jalen Hurts. So do NFL executives, coaches and scouts, who ranked Mahomes the No. 1 quarterback in a survey published by ESPN.
Despite back-to-back modest statistical seasons, most still view him as the top dog. Stats don’t tell the full story, of course, and Mahomes has delivered in the biggest moments, leading the Chiefs to the Super Bowl in both of those “down” seasons.
Combined with Reid as the top head coach, it goes to show the Chiefs are still in a fantastic place when it comes to their position in the league. Having the best head coach and quarterback is enough to win tons of games, and the Chiefs have proven that since Mahomes took over in 2018. 2025 could prove to be their toughest test, though, so we will revisit those rankings next offseason.
