With the WNBA season just weeks away, anticipation is building across the league. While Paige Bueckers’ arrival in the professional ranks is a major headline, another story is generating buzz, the reunion of Angel Reese and Hailey Van Lith in Chicago.
Reese took to X to express excitement about reuniting with her former LSU teammate, posting, “We ain’t do it right the first time. Let’s run it backkkkk.” The message signals her belief that things will be different in Chicago compared to their time at LSU, where Van Lith struggled to find her place in the loaded Tigers lineup.

Despite LSU’s impressive 31-6 record and a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament, Van Lith had difficulty adjusting, unable to replicate her standout performances from Louisville. Her season ended in disappointment, as she was benched during LSU’s second-round NCAA Tournament game and heavily criticized after failing to contain Caitlin Clark in their Elite Eight loss. Ultimately, she transferred to TCU in search of a fresh start.
That move paid off. Van Lith led TCU to its first Big 12 title game, won MVP honors, and guided the Horned Frogs to their first-ever Elite Eight. Her resilience was rewarded when Chicago selected her as the No. 11 pick in the WNBA Draft.
Things might not work in the end
Despite the enthusiasm between Reese and Van Lith, analysts remain skeptical about their on-court chemistry. Charlotte Wilder of The Sports Gossip Show voiced concerns, stating, “It didn’t work out on the court the way she wanted it to. And so that just adds a whole level of intrigue.”
Van Lith, however, is confident things will be different in Chicago. In her introductory press conference, she explained how the WNBA’s spacing and the Sky’s roster will allow her to excel alongside Reese in a way that wasn’t possible at LSU. Reese, already stepping into a leadership role, has advised Van Lith to “be in shape” for the season ahead.
With Kamilla Cardoso anchoring the frontcourt and new head coach Tyler Marsh leading the charge, Chicago has built a promising squad. The addition of All-Star Ariel Atkins further strengthens their playoff hopes.
Now, the duo has the perfect opportunity to silence their doubters. Will Reese and Van Lith finally thrive together? Or will old struggles resurface? The answer will unfold when the Sky take the court for their season opener.
