Micah Parsons is no stranger to the cameras or the microphone. Gauging Parsons’ initial reactions to Dallas Cowboys draft picks has become somewhat of an annual tradition.
On Thursday, though, it was Parsons’ reaction to a selection prior to the Cowboys’ slot that got some buzz.
At No. 8, the Carolina Panthers selected Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan, widely regarded as the best receiver in the draft and a popular Cowboys mock-draft selection at No. 12 going into Thursday night. When the Panthers’ pick was announced in the studio Parsons was doing his live show, it was apparent he had bought into all of the mock drafts himself.
“That was supposed to be our pick!” Parsons said, loudly. “I’m hurt. He was supposed to be opposite of CeeDee Lamb. CeeDee! I’m sorry, brother.”

A few minutes later, all eyes were on Parsons again, when the Cowboys selected Alabama guard Tyler Booker at No. 12. Initially, Parsons appeared to be a bit dazed, reminiscent to his reaction last year when the Cowboys selected left tackle Tyler Guyton.
However, Parsons quickly rebounded to express his excitement.

“Hold on, hold on, hold on,” Parsons said. “I am excited about the pick. This guy is a beast. He is a beast. I look at him and Tyler Smith, guard on guard, with Zack Martin leaving, this is one of them picks, I mean, wow. He is a beast. He is a beast. I just wanted to see that on my side of the ball. That’s it. But this guy is a beast. I’m not mad at the pick.”
Parsons’ wishes are valid, as interior defensive line is a question for the Cowboys, and has been since Parsons arrived in 2021. Beefing up inside would make Parsons’ life easier, too. It’s understandable that he wanted the Cowboys to go in that direction.
Three out of the nine picks after the Cowboys selected Booker were defensive tackles, with Michigan’s Kenneth Grant going to the Miami Dolphins at No. 13, Ole Miss’ Walter Nolen to the Arizona Cardinals at No. 16 and the Pittsburgh Steelers selecting Oregon’s Derrick Harmon 21st.
The Cowboys held Nolen, in particular, in high regard. In the end, they chose the route to fortify the interior offensive line.
