„Hanebné,“ tepala běžce čínská média, když se video ze závodu začalo šířit internetem. Domácí atletická asociace začala ihned vyšetřovat, na základě záběrů běžce identifikovala a udělila jim trest trvající do 1. března 2028.
Nedaleko od místa, kam si běžci odskočili, se přitom nacházely mobilní toalety, ti si ale raději vybrali zeď školy, která navíc byla viditelně označena. Další běžci je pak natočili či vyfotili.

Navíc maratonu v Su-Čou na příští rok odebrala certifikaci, takže nebude součástí oficiálního kalendář. Asociace svůj krok zdůvodnila tím, že organizátoři dostatečně nezajistili dodržování předpisů.
