O presidente da Federação Internacional do Automóvel (FIA), Mohammed Ben Sulayem, admitiu que considera mudar o polêmico Apêndice B do Código Esportivo Internacional, que estabelece multas e outras punições a pilotos que utilizem linguagem inapropriada na Fórmula 1. A normativa, no limite, pode levar ao banimento de competidores de provas futuras por insultos e palavras de baixo calão.
A regra ficou famosa especialmente na temporada passada, quando Max Verstappen, da RBR, teve de cumprir uma penalidade equivalente à de trabalho comunitário por falar um palavrão durante uma entrevista coletiva no Grande Prêmio de Cingapura. Na ocasião, o holandês justificou seu desempenho aquém do esperado porque o carro estaria “fodido”. Este ano, Carlos Sainz, da Williams, quase levou uma multa por atitude semelhante durante do GP do Bahrein, mas foi poupado após pedir desculpas.
Mohammed Ben Sulayem, 14 vezes campeão no Rally do Oriente Médio disse ao site entender a emoção do momento, mas afirmou que os pilotos são em parte responsáveis pelo que comunicam.
— Temos que diferenciar nosso esporte, o automobilismo, da música rap — disse. — Não somos rappers, você sabe. Eles dizem a palavra com ‘F’ quantas vezes por minuto? Não fazemos parte disso. Eles são eles e nós somos [nós].
Agora, Ben Sulayem afirmou ter recebido um “feedback construtivo” de vários pilotos nos sete Campeonatos Mundiais sancionados pela FIA e emitiu uma declaração nas redes sociais para confirmar que vai analisar melhorias na normativa.
“Após o feedback construtivo dos pilotos em nossos sete Campeonatos Mundiais da FIA, estou considerando melhorias no Apêndice B. Como ex-piloto de corrida, entendo as demandas que eles enfrentam melhor do que a maioria”, escreveu ele no Instagram.
O chefe da FIA reforçou a importância da regra para manter o esporte “acessível a toda a família”. A confirmação da análise de mudanças vem depois de o órgão regulador da modalidade garantir aos atletas que eles não seriam punidos por palavras proferidas “no calor do momento” da competição.
