La otra cara de los cambios de pareja: “No queda otra que pensar en uno mismo”

Cada vez es menos habitual ver parejas longevas en el pádel. Los cambios de compañero están a la orden del día y solamente la dupla que se mantiene en el número uno es capaz de aguantar las oleadas de rupturas que llegan al circuito cada cierto tiempo. Una realidad que afecta a los propios jugadores, incapaces de alcanzar una estabilidad necesaria para brillar en la pista.

Tras el P2 de Bruselas ha habido uno de esos terremotos que provoca varios movimientos. La separación de una dupla supone que haya otra con el mismo destino, pero en muchas ocasiones terminan siendo hasta ocho o nueve las que se ven afectadas. Es lo que ha ocurrido tanto en el cuadro masculino como en el femenino. 

Esto pasa por las prisas, por las exigencias, por la necesidad de lo inmediato. No tiene sentido

Dentro de estos habituales cambios que todos sufren, hay uno que está especialmente acostumbrado y no es otro que Javi Garrido. El andaluz, asentado en la parte alta del ranking desde hace ya unas temporadas, ha vivido numerosas rupturas por diferentes motivos, siendo de los más veces ha tenido que vivir esta situación dentro del pádel profesional.

En una charla con MARCA, ‘Metralleta’ ha contado lo que opina él de este tipo de circunstancias: “Es una m***da, la verdad. Muchas veces, quieras o no, uno intenta encontrar siempre el mejor acople al lado para intentar hacerlo lo mejor posible, pero creo que evidentemente no es bueno y no beneficia a nadie que haya tantos cambios. Personalmente a mí no me gusta”

El revés, natural de Córdoba, ha intentado encontrar una explicación a que ocurra de forma tan habitual: “Esto pasa por las prisas, por las exigencias, por la necesidad de lo inmediato, cuando en realidad no tiene sentido”. Además, aporta el que cree que sería el remedio para esa falta de paciencia: “Para mí la clave es trabajar, confiar e intentarlo una y otra vez y otra vez y otra vez. Evidentemente, si la cosa no funciona, pues vale, plantearte el cambio, pero no a las primeras de cambio“. 

Sin embargo, pese a haber sido uno de los mayores afectados por estos constantes cambios, no lo utiliza como excusa y reconoce que no los regularía: “Sería complicado, porque al final está también el tema de las lesiones… No sé de qué manera se podría hacer, pero yo creo que empezaría por que uno mismo confíe en su compañero, en trabajar y ya está“. 

Un inicio de temporada caótico

La temporada pasada, Javi rindió a un grandísimo nivel con Mike Yanguas y Lucas Bergamini, pero este 2025 no ha empezado como quería. Tenía una gran oportunidad con Martín Di Nenno, con quien ya compitió en el pasado, pero no han sido capaces de pasar de los cuartos de final. Finalmente, separaron sus caminos, siendo el argentino el que tomó la decisión: “Hay que preguntarle a él. Por lo que hemos hablado, no se ha terminado de encontrar cómodo y no ha encontrado la manera”.

Garrido tuvo que jugar el Major de Qatar a sabiendas de que sería su último torneo con ‘Renga’. “Al final, hay que afrontarlo de manera egoísta, pensando en uno mismo. Es saber que tengo que jugar por mí, porque no tiene sentido jugar el torneo enfadado con él y tirarla fuera. A largo plazo me daría cuenta de mi error y de que necesito esos puntos para poder mantenerme en el ranking. Entonces, hay que ser inteligente. No queda otra que pensar en uno mismo y seguir jugando”, reconoce ‘Metralleta’. 

Ahora afronta una nueva etapa con Tino Libaak, que si bien no empezó de la mejor forma en Bruselas, tendrán varios días ahora para entrenar y preparar los siguientes compromisos. “Tengo ganas de este compañero nuevo que me pueda aportar esa tranquilidad, esas ganas y esa garra que tiene compitiendo”, declara Garrido. 

Los próximos torneos son en Asunción y en Buenos Aires, aunque no parece que el revés tenga ganas de pensar en rendimientos inmediatos, sino más bien en un proyecto a largo plazo y solo el tiempo dirá si esta unión con Tino es el comienzo de uno.
