Pep Guardiola, treinador do Manchester City, exaltou a história do Santos e citou o período histórico comandado por Pelé, Pepe, Coutinho, Zito e outros craques.
“Falamos muito do Santos de Pelé. A quantidade de partidas que jogavam, as viagens. Eles eram como os Beatles daquela época”, comparou o treinador espanhol, se referindo ao sucesso que o time brasileiro tinha assim como a banda britânica de rock.
Ele ainda rasgou elogios a um dos maiores ídolos da história do Peixe: “Pepe é uma pessoa extraordinária, muito simples, uma pessoa muito humana”, definiu o estrangeiro.
Bicampeão do mundo e da Copa Libertadores da América, o Santos durante a década de 60 abria mão de disputar competições para fazer excursão na Europa. Naquela época, o time do litoral paulista era capaz de vencer qualquer equipe do mundo.
