Shortly after naming Mike Sullivan the head coach, the Rangers have shifted focus to their offense, signing pending restricted free agent Juuso Pärssinen to a two-year extension. The deal has an average annual value of $1.25 million, according to a league source.
Pärssinen had two goals and five points in 11 games with the Rangers this past season. The 24-year-old got traded twice within the season, going from Nashville to Colorado, then from Colorado to New York. In total, he played 48 games, scoring six goals and 16 points. The Rangers acquired him in a package for Ryan Lindgren and Jimmy Vesey. Pärssinen is now starting his summer playing with Finland at the World Championship.

The Rangers need young center depth, and Pärssinen offers that. Earlier in the year, his former Predators’ teammates praised his potential, even if he hasn’t fully tapped into it at the NHL level.
“He has a ton of upside,” said former Nashville defenseman Luke Schenn, now with Winnipeg. “Big body, he can skate, can control the puck down low. Those guys are hard to find: the blend of size and skill.”
With $1.25 million going to Pärssinen, the Rangers now have $8.42 million in projected cap space for 2025-26, according to PuckPedia. New York’s remaining restricted free agents include Will Cuylle and K’Andre Miller, who could combine for that much money by themselves. Adam Edström, Matt Rempe, Arthur Kaliyev, Zac Jones and Matthew Robertson are also restricted free agents.
New York will have a bit more cap space if a combination of Brett Berard, Gabe Perreault and Brennan Othmann start with AHL Hartford. The team can also bury most of Pärssinen’s cap hit in the minors, though he would require waivers for the Rangers to send him down. That still would not be enough for the team to be major players in free agency, so Chris Drury could look to free up more room by moving roster players with larger cap hits.
Pärssinen will be a restricted free agent with arbitration rights at the end of his deal.
