Stallions shine on offense, defense in win over Brahmas

Case Cookus tossed a pair of touchdowns and Ricky Person Jr. added one on the ground as the host Birmingham Stallions defeated the San Antonio Brahmas 26-3 on Sunday.

Cookus competed 16 of 23 passes for 166 yards and Andrew Peasley also saw action off the bench, going 5-for-8 for 79 yards for Birmingham (4-2).

Ronnie Perkins recorded two sacks and Steven Gilmore picked off a pass from Kevin Hogan as the Stallions held the Brahmas to 178 yards of total offense. San Antonio went 0-for-10 on third downs.

Hogan was 17-of-26 passing for 179 yards for the Brahmas (1-5), with Justin Smith tallying five catches for 108 yards. Tristan Vizcaino’s 26-yard field goal just before halftime marked the team’s only points.

Cookus hit Amari Rodgers for a 43-yard touchdown late in the first half, and after Harrison Mevis provided 49- and 50-yard field goals for the Brahmas in the third quarter, Cookus hooked up with Jace Sternberger for a 5-yard TD in the fourth.
