No Botafogo há dois meses, o técnico Renato Paiva terá a primeira partida com tom de decisão à frente da equipe. Isto é porque, se não vencer o Carabobo hoje, às 19h, na Venezuela, o alvinegro ficará em situação bem difícil para se classificar às oitavas de final da Libertadores. Na terceira colocação do torneio continental, com apenas uma vitória e duas derrotas, o time carioca está a três pontos do Estudiantes-ARG e a quatro do Universidad do Chile, que se enfrentam amanhã, às 19h, em Santiago.
Além de decisiva para a sequência na competição, a partida contra o Carabobo, adversário considerado o mais frágil do grupo, é uma boa oportunidade para o Botafogo finalmente vencer fora de casa sob o comando de Renato Paiva. Até aqui, foram seis jogos, com cinco derrotas, um empate e nenhum gol marcado. O último revés longe do Rio de Janeiro foi no sábado, contra o Bahia (1 a 0). O resultado, aliado à atuação ruim do time, fez com que as críticas em torno do treinador voltassem após as duas vitórias conquistadas no Nilton Santos.
Outro ponto que também tem sido motivo de críticas são as opções disponíveis no elenco para Renato Paiva. Desfalcado de diversos titulares, como Bastos, Barboza e Savarino, além de nomes importantes como Matheus Martins e Santiago Rodríguez, o treinador deve seguir com Patrick de Paula entre os titulares do meio-campo. Jeffinho, que foi bem contra o Capital-DF e o Bahia, é outra opção para o lado esquerdo do ataque. Além disso, Mastriani se queixou de dores musculares no treino de ontem e também deve ser ausência. Rwan Cruz e Elias Manoel disputam a vaga.
— Não vou chorar pelas ausências, vou tentar encontrar soluções em cima dos problemas que a equipe tem. Eu já sabia que eles (Barboza e Savarino) não estariam e preciso encontrar um plano de jogo — disse Paiva após a derrota do último sábado. — É recuperar o que temos. Já tenho mais ou menos os onze (titulares) na cabeça, porque tenho que projetar dois jogos em um. É recuperar jogadores que vão começar jogando outra vez e contar com aqueles que não jogaram e podem entrar — concluiu.
Um “reforço” que o Botafogo terá hoje e não pôde contar contra o Bahia será o volante Gregore, que cumpriu suspensão pelo terceiro cartão amarelo. Newton, escolhido como substituto para a partida anterior, não foi bem. A princípio, essa será a única alteração na equipe. Há também a possibilidade de troca de algum dos dois laterais: Alex Telles na vaga de Cuiabano e Mateo Ponte no lugar de Vitinho.
Vindo de vitória por 3 a 1 no Campeonato Venezuelano, o Carabobo conquistou apenas um ponto na Libertadores e ocupa a lanterna do Grupo A. Sem pretensões de classificação para as oitavas, a equipe faz questão de passar toda a pressão da partida para o Botafogo.
— A obrigação de vencer é do Botafogo. Eles sabem que, se não vencerem, vão se complicar em termos de classificação. Nós vamos tentar jogar com isso. Quando a bola rolar, eles vão tentar jogar sua partida e nós, competir ao máximo. É um rival que tem suas capacidades. Eles são velozes e precisos, e temos que buscar maneiras de defender essas situações e de equilibrar a partida — falou o técnico espanhol Diego Merino em entrevista coletiva ontem.
De acordo com Merino, a ideia é tentar igualar a disputa com o Botafogo com força mental e, claro, tática.
— Esses tipos de times sabem que são bons. Nós é que temos que correr por essa batalha, e eles têm jogadores com um individual diferenciado — isso é comum para equipes brasileiras. Nós é que temos que tentar incomodar um pouco a partida para eles, ocupar as zonas… Aí, com o passar dos minutos, que eles não cresçam em confiança por causa da necessidade que têm de vencer. Isso tudo é muito falado — afirmou.
