Knicks ještě v úvodu druhého poločasu prohrávali 55:75, ale podařil se jim obrat a tři a půl minuty před koncem základní hrací doby po trojce Jalena Brunsona šli dokonce do šestibodového vedení (97:91). „Střelu za 20 bodů jsme neměli, tak jsme si řekli, že musíme i nadále věřit. Bojovat, držet při sobě a snažit se náskok zmenšovat,“ řekl Brunson.
Do koncovky se ale šlo za stavu 100:100 a oba týmy v poslední minutě nevyužily po dvou šancích na vítězný koš. Prodloužení začali hosté šestibodovou šňůrou a tentokrát už náskok udrželi.
Celtics v zápase dali 15 trojek, ale také jich 45 neproměnili, což je rekord play off. Nuggets v Oklahomě ještě v poslední čtvrtině prohrávali o 10 bodů, ale dostali se na kontakt a v závěru využili nezdar Cheta Holmgrena, který deset sekund před koncem neproměnil dva trestné hody. Z protiútoku stav otočil svojí třetí trojkou v zápase Gordon a pokus domácího Jalena Williamse přes celé hřiště neměl šanci na úspěch.
Gordon zaznamenal 22 bodů a 14 doskoků, hlavním strůjcem úspěchu byl ale Nikola Jokič, který se zaskvěl 42 body a 22 doskoky. Domácím nepomohlo ani 33 bodů, 10 doskoků a osm asistencí Shaie Gilgeouse-Alexandera.
