Alpine announced Tuesday that Oliver Oakes resigned from his position as team principal, which was accepted by the team with immediate effect. Flavio Briatore, the team’s executive advisor, will assume Oakes’ responsibilities while continuing his advisory duties.
“The team would like to thank Oliver for his efforts since he joined last summer and for his contribution in helping the team secure sixth place in the 2024 Constructors’ Championship,” Alpine’s statement said, in part. “The team will not be making any further comment.”

Following the Miami Grand Prix last weekend, Oakes didn’t do his post-race media duties — at the time, the official reasoning given was “due to a change in travel plans.”
Oakes was named Alpine’s team principal last July after Bruno Famin left the role, the Frenchman wanting to focus on his VP of motorsports duties. Oakes, 37, is a former racing driver and founded Hitech Grand Prix in 2015, a program with established teams across numerous junior categories like F1 Academy, Formula Three and Formula Two.
Oakes was Alpine’s fourth team boss in less than four years, his predecessors being Famin, Otmar Szafnauer and Cyril Abiteboul. His appointment in 2024 made him F1’s youngest team principal.
His resignation comes at a time when rumors are swirling about the future of Jack Doohan’s seat and whether Franco Colapinto will replace the Australian driver at Imola, the start of a European tripleheader. Alpine’s also had a difficult run this season and sits ninth in the team standings with seven points, just one more than 10th-place Sauber.
Alpine lacked speed in Miami, and Pierre Gasly said after the race, per formula1.com, “We were on the back foot throughout the whole weekend, so I want to believe and probably hope that it’s more related to this track and the tarmac and the conditions we faced, but honestly at the minute we just need more time to get some answers.”
After six races, Alpine sits ninth in the constructors’ standings with seven points.
This is a developing story. More to come.
