A decisão do Tribunal Arbitral do Esporte (TAS) relativa ao caso do León e sua retirada do Mundial de Clubes da Fifa foi desfavorável aos mexicanos, que foram mantidos fora do torneio. Com isso, a máxima entidade do futebol já definiu como será escolhido o substituto para tal vaga, a deixada no grupo do Flamengo.
Isto se dará por meio de um jogo eliminatório. Nesta terça-feira (6), foi anunciado pela entidade que haverá uma partida, ainda sem data ou local definidos, entre América-MEX e Los Angeles FC, cujo vencedor assumirá o espaço vacante no torneio e será um dos adversários do Rubro-Negro na competição
A escolha dos times foi dada diante do que apresenta o regulamento do Mundial de Clubes quanto À classificação das equipes. O Los Angeles FC foi vice do León na Liga dos Campeões da Concacaf de 2023, enquanto o América mexicano era a melhor equipe do ranking da entidade que não tinha vaga no torneio a ser disputado a partir de junho nos EUA.
O ‘caso León’
A realização do jogo já era cogitada como uma alternativa para resolver a situação causada pela exclusão do León, que teve sua participação do torneio vetada por descumprir as regras da Fifa que proíbem que dois times de um mesmo proprietário disputem seus torneios. No caso, por ter também o mesmo proprietário do Pachuca, Jesús Martinez Patiño. O clube mexicano entrou com recurso contestando tal decisão, mas recebeu a negativa.
Um recurso de Alajuelense (Costa Rica) pedindo a exclusão do clube mexicano por este motivo e pleiteando sua vaga por sua posição no ranking foi analisado, citando um limite de dois clubes por país na disputa do Mundial, exceto se forem mais de dois campeões continentais no período de quatro anos.
Tal pedido fora também rejeitado na sentença emitida pelo TAS, esta que deverá ter seus detalhes informados em breve. Com isso, abriu-se espaço para manter o desejo da Fifa de ter a tal partida eliminatória, que deverá agora sair do papel.
