Matthijs de Ligt does not have a serious injury but will miss Manchester United’s matches against Athletic Club and West Ham United, Ruben Amorim has said.
De Ligt sustained a muscular injury in the 33rd minute of United’s 4-3 defeat at Brentford in the Premier League on May 4 and was replaced by Harry Maguire.

The Netherlands injury went down in the build-up to Brentford’s second goal of the game, leaving United players frustrated that play had not been stopped.
United head coach Amorim said after the game he was “really concerned” about the 25-year-old’s injury, ahead of United’s Europa League semi-final second leg against Athletic Club on Thursday and league game at home to West Ham on Sunday, but he believes the centre-back will return before the end of the season.
“It is not a big issue, that is the good thing,” Amorim said on Wednesday at his pre-match press conference.
“He cannot play tomorrow or Sunday (against West Ham United) but then we will check day by day. The rest I think Ayden (Heaven) doesn’t recover, Toby (Collyer) is not available and I think that is it.”
De Ligt, who had played 42 matches in his debut season at Old Trafford, had not started in any of United’s six matches ahead of their trip to Brentford, but did play a 25-minute cameo in the first leg victory in Bilbao on May 1.
United lead 3-0 ahead of Thursday’s game at Old Trafford, but Amorim warned against complacency and insisted the tie was still alive.
“That is clear, if you look at our season, anything is possible,” he said.
“We have to understand one goal can change anything, the momentum of the game, one sending off, you saw it a week ago. We are fighting to win the game. We are thinking about winning the game.”
United are already without centre-back Lisandro Martinez, who sustained a cruciate ligament injury in February, while Ayden Heaven has not played with March due to a knee injury and Diogo Dalot is out with a calf injury.
