“I never thought I was going to be an NFL football player,” Mahomes said during his induction speech. “My goal growing up was to win a district championship in Whitehouse, Texas and my senior year, we were able to do that.”
He fondly recalled one of the most memorable plays of that championship run.
“And I still remember the play, the quarterback sweep to the right,” Mahomes said of the game-winning touchdown against John Tyler High School. “Those are the moments I’ll forever remember.”
Mahomes also shared that many of the bonds he formed during that time are still strong to this day. The 29-year-old quarterback remains close friends with many of his high school teammates and continues to maintain roots in the Texas community.
His wife, Brittany Mahomes, was also his high school sweetheart. The couple now shares three children and is deeply involved in charitable and youth initiatives.
In a touching gesture during the ceremony, Mahomes took the opportunity to give back to the next generation of athletes. The Texas Tech alumnus announced a new partnership with Adidas aimed at supporting high school football programs across the country.
He revealed that 15 schools-including his alma mater, Whitehouse-will receive custom jerseys designed in collaboration with Adidas. Brittany Mahomes briefly joined him near the stage to unveil one of the custom designs, showcasing their continued commitment to giving back to their roots.
The crowd in Waco responded with enthusiastic applause to both the jersey initiative and Mahomes‘ heartfelt remarks.
