Vyrovnaný první set musela rozhodnout až zkrácená hra, v níž se radovala poměrem 7:1 Šnajderová. Ruska měla navrch i ve druhé sadě, ale krátká dešťová přeháňka jako kdyby ji vyvedla z tempa.
Ve druhém dějství se totiž Paoliniové povedl velký obrat, když od stavu 0:4 neztratila jediný game, a o semifinalistce musel rozhodnout třetí set.

I do něj lépe vstoupila Šnajderová, ale světová pětka dokázala rychle smazat manko jednoho brejku a za stavu 2:2 Ruska vybuchla směrem k domácím tifosi. Divokými gesty je však rozdráždila ještě víc a zbytek duelu se dohrával ve velmi nepřátelské atmosféře.

Paoliniová, která si loni zahrála finále French Open i Wimbledonu, od interakce Šnajderové s publikem zcela dominovala a čtyřmi hrami v řadě čtvrtfinále ukončila. Italští fanoušci tak nadále mohou snít o první domácí vítězce prestižního podniku od roku 1985, kdy turnaj ovládla Raffaella Reggiová.
„Byl to náročný zápas jako na horské dráze. Jsem šťastná, že jsem ho zvládla. Šla jsem bod po bodu a vyplatilo se. Samozřejmě děkuji publiku, moc jste mi pomohli,“ líčila nadšená Paoliniová po zápase. V semifinále, kam postoupila jako první Italka od roku 2014, se střetne s Američankou Stearnsovou.
