Fans of the Texas Longhorns are going to get exactly what they wanted for a large portion of the 2024 season. After several uninspiring performances from starting quarterback Quinn Ewers, fans began pining for Arch Manning to supplant him. Manning had shown flashes of brilliance in his spot starts and in mop-up duty, but head coach Steve Sarkisian refused to pull the trigger.
Now, Manning’s pathway to being the starter is completely clear. Many are expecting greatness from him, but it won’t be smooth sailing, mainly because the Longhorns have lost a ton of offensive pieces from a season ago. Texas’ top three pass-catchers from last year are now in the NFL, as is pass-catching running back Jaydon Blue. Three offensive line starters are also gone. There’s a lot of change for Manning at Texas, but he at least has arguably his most talented teammate: Ryan Wingo.

With Matthew Golden, Isaiah Bond and Gunnar Helm departing for the NFL, Wingo is set to be the go-to target for Manning. Wingo showed glimpses of elite traits as a freshman last season, averaging 16.3 yards per reception and showcasing his explosiveness with 100 rushing yards on five carries. Standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 210 pounds, Wingo is the ideal size-speed combo that could dominate in his second collegiate season.
Sam Leavitt and Jordyn Tyson considered the best QB-WR duo in nation
Arch Manning Leads Odds to Go #1 Overall in 2026 NFL Draft
According to 247Sports, Manning and Wingo are the fourth-best quarterback-wide receiver duo in college football heading into the 2025 season. If they want to be the best, though, they’ll have to surpass these three other talented duos.
- Arizona State: QB Sam Leavitt & WR Jordyn Tyson
- Ohio State: QB Julian Sayin & WR Jeremiah Smith
- LSU: QB Garrett Nussmeier & WR Barion Brown
Working in Manning and Wingo’s favor is their familiarity. Only Leavitt and Tyson have played together for an extended period. Sayin only appeared in relief duty last season, while Brown just transferred to LSU from Kentucky.
Smith is clearly the most talented wideout from that group. He put up over 1,300 yards and 15 touchdowns as a freshman last year. But Sayin is a much bigger question mark than Manning, so Wingo could explode in Year 2.
