It’s time for the 150th Preakness Stakes, the middle jewel of the Triple Crown. The 2025 Kentucky Derby winner, Sovereignty, will not be racing in the Preakness Stakes this weekend, squashing any dreams of a Triple Crown winner in 2025. The last time a horse won the Triple Crown was 2018. With Sovereignty out, Journalism, the original favorite to win the Derby, will have a shot at redemption.
The 150th Preakness Stakes will be the final event held at Pimlico Race Course before the facility is demolished as part of a redevelopment project. It is set to reopen in 2027. Next year’s Preakness will relocate to the nearby Laurel Park.
