Justin Bieber‘s once-expansive inner circle appears to be shrinking, raising concerns about his mental state and the growing influence of Churchome pastor Judah Smith as people question: Is the pop star in a cult?
Since around 2010, Bieber has been associated with Churchome, a Los Angeles-based megachurch led by Smith which is known for attracting celebrity followers and has become the subject of scrutiny.
A new documentary, What Happened to Justin Bieber, delves into his association with the organization which has been claimed to operate more like a “cult” than a traditional place of worship.
The film explores Bieber’s apparent estrangement from long-time friends and associates, particularly his former close companion and Drew House collaborator Ryan Good and how he may have slipped within the influence of Smith.

Claiming the 31-year-old Canadian may be entangled in a troubling spiritual and psychological dynamic, insiders claim he may have even lost friends due to the connection, as per radaronline.com.
Ryan Good, who was once a constant in Bieber’s life and even a key figure at his wedding, reportedly distanced himself from Churchome after becoming uncomfortable with its structure and the singer subsequently cut him off.
The documentary also claims that Bieber and Smith confronted both Scooter Braun and Good – challenging Braun over his religious beliefs and interrogating Good about his personal life.
Despite growing concern, Smith has dismissed the rumors by saying, “What kind of cult only meets once a month?”
Bieber’s mental health causes concerns
Bieber’s mental health has reportedly become a major concern for those once close to him throughout 2025, with Good voicing his worries publicly after witnessing erratic behavior during the Coachella music festival.
Additionally, increasingly emotional posts on social media, including messages where he appears to be “begging God for help,” have fueled further alarm. These expressions of distress, coupled with his public withdrawal and reliance on Churchome, paint a picture of an artist who may be in a fragile state.
Complicating matters is Bieber’s past connection to Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is now facing multiple criminal charges relating to emotional, physical and sexual abuse against over 100 people, some of them minors.
A resurfaced video showing the two together when Bieber was still a minor has reignited speculation about their relationship, and the documentary touches on this as another turning point in Bieber’s apparent decline.
However, sources close to the situation emphasized that Combs never abused Bieber and the singer recently issued a firm denial through his representatives.
“Although Justin is not among Sean Combs’ victims,” Bieber’s team said, “there are individuals who were genuinely harmed by him.
“Shifting focus away from this reality detracts from the justice these victims rightfully deserve.”
Combs is currently standing trail in New York and faces five criminal counts: one count of racketeering conspiracy; two counts of sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion; and two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He denies all claims.
