On Saturday night, in the middle of a promotional tour in New York, a Mexican Navy sailboat crashed into the iconic Brooklyn Bridge, causing chaos. The boat’s masts became tangled in the bridge’s upper structure, creating a deafening noise and bringing the city to a standstill.
Several people dressed in white were holding onto the crossbars on board the ship. Meanwhile, near the South Street Seaport, people quickly moved away to avoid danger.

Visible scars were left on the bridge by the impact, while the swaying vessel made its way through the East River, leaving behind a trail of shock and unanswered questions.
Viral videos on social media show the masts breaking upon colliding with the bridge while traffic continued. The boat, which was flying a large Mexican flag, veered toward the shore, prompting people to move away while the sailors remained on the damaged structure.

Mexican authorities have provided updates on the tragedy
According to the latest information from the Navy Secretariat‘s X account, at least 22 sailors were injured, 19 of whom are receiving medical care for severe injuries.
“As a result of the accident, there is an official report of 22 injured crew members, 19 of whom are receiving medical attention at local hospitals, and three of whom have serious injuries.”
“No one fell into the water, so it was not necessary to activate rescue operations.”
“The director of the Naval Academy is in contact with the families of the cadets on the ship, and the commander of the Eighth Naval Region is in contact with the families of the Cuauhtémoc crew to provide them with necessary information.”
The Cuauhtémoc, which is used by the Mexican Navy to train cadets, docked in New York on May 13th during its 254-day international tour of 15 countries. It set sail from Acapulco with 277 people on board. Its arrival coincided with a scheduled stop open to the public at Pier 17.
No deaths have been reported at this time, but given the tragic scenario that has just unfolded, we may see more detailed updates on the injured in the coming hours. As reported, there are more than 20 injured individuals.
