Piastri vyhrál v této sezoně čtyři ze šesti závodů. Triumfem v poslední Velké ceně Miami dosáhl tří vítězství v řadě. Kdyby se mu podařilo ovládnout i závod v Imole, dorovnal by historický rekord britské stáje v po sobě jdoucích vítězstvích. Ten drží od roku 1991 Ayrton Senna, jenž vyhrál úvodní čtyři závody onoho roku a následně i mistrovský titul.
Piastriho ale nečeká snadná práce. Přes to, že vyhrál kvalifikaci a bude startovat z pole position, hned vedle něj vstoupí do závodu Verstappen a z druhé řady mu na záda budou dýchat George Russell z Mercedesu a Piastriho týmový kolega Lando Norris.
Velká cena Emilia Romagna je prvním letošním domácím závodem pro Ferrari. Jezdcům italské stáje se ale kvalifikace vůbec nepodařila. Charles Leclerc bude startovat 11. a Lewis Hamilton vedle něj z 12. místa. V závodě se oba pokusí odvrátit blamáž a alespoň z části smýt pachuť neúspěchu z kvalifikace a vlastně i celé probíhající sezony.
Domácí závod je to i pro nováčka ve voze mercedes Andreu Kimiho Antonelliho. Nejmladší jezdec na startovním roštu se narodil v nedaleké Boloni, a i pro něj by úspěch na domácí trati měl větší význam. Kvalifikace ale nevyšla ani jemu a startovat tak bude až za oběma vozy ferrari z 13. pozice.
Kvalifikace ale kromě zklamání některých zúčastněných přinesla i dvě nehody. Ve svém prvním letošním vystoupení jako závodní pilot boural na konci Q1 Franco Colapinto ze stáje Alpine. Daleko hrozivěji ale vyhlížela nehoda Júkiho Cunody, jehož monopost red bull se v zatáčce odlepil od vozovky a nechybělo mnoho, aby přeletěl přes bariéru. Oba piloti naštěstí vyvázli bez vážného zranění a do závodu by měli nastoupit.

Letošní sezona seriálu formule 1 začala 16. března Velkou cenou Austrálie a končí 7. prosince v Abú Zabí. Titul mezi jezdci obhajuje Nizozemec Max Verstappen z Red Bullu a mezi stájemi britský McLaren.
