Beim 34:26 gegen den ThSV Eisenach sah man ihm seine Mühe nicht an. Mathias Gidsel (26), der Superstar der Füchse Berlin, flog wie gewohnt übers Parkett, war mit neun Toren bester Werfer und führte den Tabellenführer auch gleich nach der Länderspielpause wieder zum Sieg.
Vor dem nächsten Duell am Montag (19 Uhr, Dyn/Anzeige) in der Daikin Handball-Bundesliga gegen Frisch Auf Göppingen verrät der Welthandballer: „Gegen Eisenach war es nicht mein höchstes Niveau, aber es war genug, um zu gewinnen. Alle hatten eine harte Länderspielwoche nur Lasse und ich nicht, da hat vielleicht die Spannung in meinem Körper etwas gefehlt.“

Gidsel, der jedes Spiel in einer unfassbaren Geschwindigkeit durchpowert, verrät und schmunzelt: „Ich habe eine Woche Urlaub bekommen und war in meinem Sommerhäuschen in Dänemark und hab das dänische Wetter genossen. Ich sollte meine Akkus auftanken. Aber bei so viel Ruhe war mein Körper überrascht und hat gedacht, was ist mit dem denn los.“

Gidsel, der Muskelkater nach Spielen sonst nicht kennt, entschuldigt sich: „Pause ist nicht normal für meinen Körper, aber für meinen Kopf war diese Woche vor der Endphase der Saison sehr, sehr gut. Ich fühle mich jetzt wieder frisch für Handball.“

Und der Olympiasieger und Weltmeister verspricht: „Gegen Göppingen bin ich wieder zurück. Das ist ein schwerer Gegner, das haben wir schon ein paar Jahre dort erlebt. Für uns ist jetzt jedes Spiel ein Finale, wir haben diesen Meistertraum, jetzt sind es noch fünf Spiele, also fünf Schritte, die wir gehen müssen. Ja, unser Hauptziel ist die Meisterschaft, aber wichtiger ist erst einmal der Alltag und der heißt im nächsten Spiel gut Handball zu spielen.“
Und er schiebt nach: „Wenn wir wissen, wir spielen guten Handball, ist es egal, wie der Gegner heißt, ob Göppingen oder Melsungen, dann gewinnen wir auch. Darauf fokussieren wir uns.“
