Oklahoma City sice na úvod série doma zaváhala, ale jinak potvrzovala sílu domácího prostředí a využila ho i v rozhodujícím zápase. Denver s vítězem základní části držel krok jen první čtvrtinu. Pak začal ztrácet míče a Thunder se dostávali ke snadným košům z rychlých protiútoků. Do poločasu odskočili na rozdíl dvaceti bodů a Denver se zlomil. Postupně domácí vedli až o 43 bodů. Nuggets v zápase ztratili 23 míčů, což Thunder potrestali 37 body.
Oklahoma City se mohla opět spolehnout na svou hvězdu Shaie Gilgeouse-Alexandera, který 35 body potvrdil roli nejlepšího střelce soutěže. Důležitou postavou byl také Alex Caruso, který dostal za úkol bránit výrazně vyššího Nikolu Jokiče. Výbornou obranou nedovoloval srbské hvězdě dostávat přihrávky a výrazně přispěl k tomu, že se Jokič v zápase dostal jen k devíti střelám a dal pouze 20 bodů. I tak byl Jokič nejlepším střelcem Nuggets, neboť jeho spoluhráči zklamali. Zejména Jamal Murray, který na 13 bodů potřeboval 16 střel.
Postup Oklahomy City znamená, že si o titul zahrají čtyři týmy, které už hodně dlouho čekají na úspěch. Minnesota dokonce nikdy nebyla ve finále. Titul dosud nezískala ani Indiana, která v 70. letech vyhrála jen konkurenční ligu ABA. Oklahoma City má jediný titul z roku 1979, kdy tým sídlil v Seattlu. New York čeká na titul od roku 1973. NBA bude mít jiného vítěze osmou sezonu po sobě, což se stane poprvé v historii soutěže.
