Mexican champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez could not account for his opponent, the elusive William Scull, in their fight on May 3 in Saudi Arabia. Although the Mexican fighter won by unanimous decision, he could not connect and punish his opponent as he wanted because he could not connect fully and constantly on his humanity because of the elusive and unwilling to fight in the ring.
The fight with Scull was the first of four scheduled fights he signed with Riyadh Season and Turki Al-Sheikh, with his second bout set for September 12 against American Terence Crawford (41-0).

Saul Alvarez (63-2-2) will turn 35 in July and after what was seen in Riyadh on May 3, Eddie Hearn, promoter with Matchroom Boxing, believes that this year the Mexican will retire.
I think the fight with Crawford will be his last fight. There is no information about it and I have not talked to him, but after seeing the fight with David Avanesyan, which was incredibly negative, after Crawford, what can you do?
“Do you want to go to England and fight? Yes, I guess he might be interested, but I don’t know. I just think about ‘father time’, the body, the power… actually, during the fight with Scull I thought ‘I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t fight Crawford’,” Hearn told a press conference.
Canelo Alvarez not keen on fighting Terence Crawford
Some media have already echoed that Canelo Alvarez only fights Crawford for the money they offer him, that in sports that duel has never interested him, as he repeatedly said before agreeing with Turki Alalshikh.
“He’s never been too keen on the fight because I think he thinks, ‘Why would I get credit for beating someone three divisions below, two divisions now?'”
He moves a lot, he’s good, he’s awkward and it’s going to be tough, but obviously the money becomes so big that he will accept the fight. I think it’s probably the training camps that will make Alvarez retire, it’s a big wear and tear on the body,” added Eddie Hearn.
