Russell Wilson is starting to have problems with Jaxson Dart and that could complicate things with the Giants

A new era is beginning with the New York Giants. After six years with Daniel Jones at the helm of the offense, the now-Indianapolis Colts quarterback only managed to take the Giants to the playoffs once. Now, the Big Apple organization has taken a major turn to try and return to NFL competitiveness.

The Giants signed two quarterbacks in free agency – Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston. In addition, during the NFL Draft, they were one of the teams that closed the door on Shedeur Sanders and surprised many by trading their 2025 second- and third-round picks, as well as their 2026 third-round pick, to the Houston Texans to draft Jaxson Dart from Ole Miss.

Jaxson Dart knew the Giants were choosing him over Shedeur Sanders

Dart was the second player the Giants selected in the first round of the NFL Draft. With the third overall pick, New York also took Abdul Carter, a spectacular defender from Penn State who will no doubt elevate the team’s defensive quality.

Dan Orlovsky believes the Giants shouldn’t rush Jaxson Dart

Former NFL quarterback and current analyst Dan Orlovsky appeared on The Pat McAfee Show to share his thoughts on the quarterback situation with the New York Giants. He stated that the team should begin the season with Russell Wilson.

“I think you probably should lean on Russ early,” Orlovsky said. “I think Russ can play well enough – we saw it last year – he gives you chances to win games.”

Arch Manning Leads Odds to Go #1 Overall in 2026 NFL Draft

Jaxson Dart himself knows he’ll need to learn and is excited to learn from Russell Wilson, who has had a successful NFL career and won a Super Bowl ring in 2014 with the Seattle Seahawks.

“I’m stepping into an incredible quarterback room with a Super Bowl winner who sees the game from an elite perspective. I can’t wait to learn from him and the other guys like Tommy and Jameis in the room,” Dart said after the 2025 NFL Draft.

Analyst Dan Orlovsky believes Jaxson Dart is very similar to Drake Maye, quarterback of the New England Patriots. Maye started as a backup and ended up as the starter for the Patriots, so a similar path could be in store for Dart with the Giants.

“I don’t think the Giants should rush Jaxson Dart at all,” Orlovsky said. “If you’re the Giants, you’re probably thinking about something like Thanksgiving to put Jaxson Dart on the field.”

What’s certain is that the Giants will have to try out Jaxson Dart at some point during the season. On top of that, New York has the toughest schedule in the NFL, and it will be difficult for Russell Wilson to hold onto the starting job for the entire season.

Jacob Murphy interview: ‘I hope England are casting an eye on what I’m doing’

Jacob Murphy talks about “callusing the mind” and it is an intriguing phrase. Just as skin can be toughened through manual labour, so the brain can be rewired to plough through difficulty. Although Murphy is speaking about himself, it applies just as much to Newcastle United, a club newly transformed from perennial losers into ice-cold winners.AdvertisementAmid stiff competition, Murphy has a strong claim for Newcastle’s most compelling story this season. He might be the Premier League’s most underrated player (last month, The Athletic used his photograph to illustrate an article discussing that subject), and he is definitely its most meme-able, but reappraisal is overdue. How about this: Murphy is a Newcastle legend. By virtue of winning the Carabao Cup in March, the club’s first domestic trophy for 70 years, he and his team-mates automatically become history boys. Yet winning has meant […]
