Prince William and Princess Catherine have been honoured by Time magazine in its 2025 TIME100 Philanthropy Awards, an annual list celebrating the world’s most influential changemakers in charitable work.
The Prince and Princess of Wales were commended for revolutionising royal giving, earning global praise for their progressive approach to social impact.
Rather than maintaining traditional charitable duties, the royal couple has embraced contemporary causes and strategic collaborations. Time noted that William and Kate are “less concerned with cultural preservation and more attuned to social issues” – a nod to their efforts in tackling homelessness, environmental degradation, and early childhood development.
Prince William‘s Earthshot Prize, one of the cornerstone projects of his royal legacy, is a 10-year initiative launched in 2020 that awards £50 million in total to innovators addressing urgent environmental challenges.

Now in its fifth year, the Earthshot Prize has supported a wide range of global solutions designed to restore the planet and combat climate change. More recently, his Homewards project, launched in 2023, aims to eradicate homelessness in the UK by forging strong partnerships with local organisations and businesses.
Meanwhile, the Princess of Wales has led a pioneering campaign focused on the importance of children’s early development. Her “Shaping Us” initiative, supported by the Royal Foundation, promotes public awareness around the first five years of life. Further amplifying her impact, Catherine launched a Business Taskforce for Early Childhood, urging major corporations to build more family-focused work environments.
Spotlight missing on Harry and Meghan
In a notable contrast, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle – once listed among TIME’s most influential people in 2021 – were absent from this year’s Philanthropy list. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and launched their own ventures under the Archewell Foundation, were previously recognised for their efforts to shape social change through media and charity.
However, their exclusion in 2025 signals a shift in visibility and recognition. Despite ongoing philanthropic initiatives, such as partnerships in mental health and community support, the couple faced setbacks – including a brief compliance issue with the California Attorney General’s office over late tax filings for Archewell, which has since been resolved.
Their media projects, including Meghan’s upcoming Netflix series With Love, Meghan, aim to promote compassion and connection. Yet these efforts may not have met Time’s criteria for inclusion this year, which spotlighted individuals making systemic, scalable impact.
The 2025 TIME100 Philanthropy list also recognised influential figures like David Beckham, Oprah Winfrey, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Melinda French Gates, Dolly Parton, and Michael Sheen – a diverse lineup shaping global giving in creative and impactful ways.
As the monarchy continues to evolve, William and Catherine’s strategic, business-aligned approach to philanthropy may well define the future of royal service – one rooted not just in duty, but in measurable change and social innovation.
