The sports world was rocked on Tuesday with the sudden news of ex-MLS soccer player Gadi Kinda’s passing at just 31 years old, with Patrick Mahomes amongst those shaken by their passing.
The former Sporting Kansas City star and Maccabi Haifa player had been battling a serious medical condition, with his Israeli club revealing only weeks ago that he was hospitalized for a “complex medical battle” and undergoing “a series of comprehensive tests.”

Remembering a talented career
Kinda’s impact on the field was profound during his MLS tenure. From 2020 to 2023, he appeared in 80 matches for Sporting Kansas City, contributing 16 goals and 17 assists.

His performances helped the team secure playoff berths in three consecutive seasons, earning him a place in the hearts of Kansas City fans. After his MLS stint, Kinda returned to Israel where he continued his career with Maccabi Haifa, making his final professional appearance on March 29 in a 2-0 win over Hapoel Haifa.
Sporting KC expressed deep sorrow following the announcement.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of former Sporting KC midfielder Gadi Kinda. Our hearts go out to his family, friends, teammates, and everyone who knew him,” a club statement read.
The loss resonated beyond soccer as local sports icon and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes took to social media to extend his sympathies.
“Praying for his family and friends!” Mahomes posted on Twitter.
Fans worldwide shared their grief and memories. Comments poured in, from “Terrible news. This is so sad” to heartfelt tributes like “Rest in paradise young man” and “RIP Legend.”
The Israel Football Association also mourned their former player, posting a statement of their own.
“Israeli football lost not only a talented player today, but also a beloved and respected person. We share the grief of the Kinda family over Gadi’s untimely passing.”
