Hump Day might as well be called “Bet on Baseball” Day.

With another 15 games on the schedule, there are innumerable markets to bet on midweek.

Maybe my list of Best MLB Bets for Wednesday can help you out.

I recommend line shopping for better prices, but for the purpose of this list, odds are via FanDuel unless otherwise stated.

Chicago Cubs (-1.5) vs. Miami Marlins (+112), o/u 8.5

The Chicago Cubs are the hottest-hitting team in baseball right now, batting .326 over the last week. Miami will send Max Meyer (3-4, 4.47 ERA, 1.33 WHIP) to the mound. He’s allowed five runs in three of his last four starts.

Cubs starter Cade Horton is better than his 6.00 ERA suggests, but it may not matter if the Marlins manage a few runs. If Chicago doesn’t destroy Meyer, they’ll likely rough up Miami’s struggling bullpen.

Pick: Cubs -1.5 at +126

Baltimore Orioles (+1.5) vs. Milwaukee Brewers (-126), o/u 8.5

Baltimore has lost eight straight, including two to the Brewers. The Orioles are hitting just .242 over the last week, and facing Brewers starter Chad Patrick (2-4, 3.35 ERA, 1.28 WHIP) isn’t going to make things easier.

The Brewers, hitting .230 over the last week, won’t have it easy against Tomoyuki Sugano (3.08 ERA, 1.03 WHIP) either. As bad as the Orioles have been, I’d lean toward Milwaukee on the moneyline if you’re picking a winner.

But the UNDER is a much stronger play. Add the Brewers moneyline (-126) in a same-game parlay, and you’ll get +212 odds.

Pick: UNDER 8.5

2025 Belmont Stakes horses, entries, odds, date: Expert who nailed Derby, Preakness gives picks, predictions

Imagn Images The fervor for a Kentucky Derby rematch has been building for weeks and it looks like horse racing fans might get their wish at the 2025 Belmont Stakes. Sovereignty beat Journalism by 1 1/2 lengths at Churchill Downs and bypassed the Preakness Stakes, which Journalism won by a 1/2 length last Saturday. Both are probable for the 2025 Belmont Stakes field at Saratoga Race Course on Saturday, June 7. Post time is 6:50 p.m. ET. Sovereignty (8-5) and Journalism (2-1) are the two favorites in the 2025 Belmont Stakes odds, but they won't be the only 2025 Belmont Stakes contenders at Saratoga.Baeza (4-1) finished third in the Kentucky Derby and Bob Baffert's Rodriguez (8-1) could make his Triple Crown debut after being scratched in the first two legs because of a minor injury. Before making any 2025 Belmont […]

Pirates GM Ben Cherington shuts down Paul Skenes trade rumors: ‘It’s not part of the conversation at all’

Want to know how the Pittsburgh Pirates are doing in 2025? It's not even June and the conversation has already turned to whether the team should trade away its 22-year-old superstar pitcher for future assets.Since he was promoted to the majors, Paul Skenes has performed like one of the best pitchers in the majors. In 33 career starts, Skenes has a 2.12 ERA, with 232 strikeouts over 195 2/3 innings. He's the type of player most franchise would dream of building around, but the Pirates aren't most franchises.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementWith the club once again struggling — the team is 17-34 entering Friday — some have speculated the Pirates would be better off trading Skenes for a bevy of prospects that will help the team in the future. On the surface, it seemed like a ridiculous notion. Why would the Pirates trade the team's […]

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander opened up about Chris Paul mentorship, road to MVP

Getty Images When the Houston Rockets traded Chris Paul to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Russell Westbrook in the summer of 2019, it appeared to be part of a massive teardown effort in OKC. They already flipped Paul George to the Clippers for a young point guard in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and a boatload of picks six days prior, and then sent their homegrown star to an in-division title contender for another package headlined by picks and swaps. Paul was never going to be part of the Thunder's long-term future, but he ended up playing an important part in getting this Thunder team to where it is today as the West's top seed, two games away from its first Finals appearance since 2012. That's because Paul was a willing mentor for Gilgeous-Alexander, who got a yearlong crash course in how to be […]

Fantasy Baseball Pickups: Race to the waiver wire for Matt Shaw

OK, folks, if I am gonna reach my quarterly transaction quota around here, I am gonna need everyone to commit to this week’s fantasy baseball pickups. Corporate is all over me. No excuses this week, people. Just please add these widely available (and quite useful) players as soon as possible…Matt Shaw, 2B/3B/SS, Chicago Cubs (44% rostered)Shaw has been terrific since he returned from exile in Iowa. He just went 5-for-11 with 2 runs, 2 RBI and 2 steals in the Miami series, and his late-inning stolen base on Wednesday was basically the game-winning play. There should be a spot for Shaw on someone’s roster in pretty much any league. If the power/speed potential doesn’t do it for you, the multi-position eligibility should. He was raking at Triple-A before he was recalled and he’s sustained that level of play so far […]

Fantasy Baseball Week 10 Preview: Two-start pitcher rankings feature Kevin Gausman, Gavin Williams

Each weekend, Scott White ranks the two start pitchers for the upcoming scoring period and then categorizes them by how usable they are. The names depicted here are highly speculative and subject to change. One of the most common ways they change is with the addition of a spot starter when a team is scheduled to play six games in a row. It doesn't always happen, but it happens often enough that I'm taking the extra step this year of pointing out which of the two-start pitchers is scheduled for Tuesday and Sunday in the upcoming scoring period since they're the most likely to lose out in such a scenario. Below are the two-start pitchers for Fantasy Week 10 (May 26-June 1), with the most questionable (Tuesday/Sunday in a seven-game week) being Taj Bradley and Bowden Francis. Be sure to check […]

MLB picks, best baseball bets for Friday, including HR plays for Phillies sluggers and Ronald Acuña Jr. return

Imagn Images Friday generally is good news in and of itself for many people. Here, under the Matt Snyder byline on CBS Sports, Friday means it's time for another installment of picks, or, as I like to call this little exercise, Friday Night lines. I'm here to wish you another very happy Friday, as we're following up a 2-0 week here in bets and looking to keep the good times rolling. This time around we're going to play three hitter props before our usual home run recommendations and a futures play. The lines are from BetMGM for Friday.Ronald Acuña Jr. over 2.5 H+R+RBI (+120)Yes, I'm diving right in. Acuña is returning after nearly a year of missed time due to a torn ACL and the ensuring surgical repair of his left knee. We know how good he can be and we're pretty […]
