This year’s Indianapolis 500 will feature two drivers in particular whose stories revolve around the pursuit of history.
Josef Newgarden is looking for his third consecutive victory in the Indianapolis 500. No one in the 108-year history of the race has won twice in a row.
Paige Spiranac shares the uncomfortable encounter with a ‘slow’ man on a golf course
Helio Castroneves is looking for his fifth victory. No one in the 108-year history of the race has won five. Will any of them be able to accomplish this feat?
The 2025 Indianapolis 500 of the IndyCar Series is scheduled for Sunday, May 25, 2025, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indiana.

The race is the sixth round of the 2025 NTT IndyCar Series season.
The possible winners of the Indianapolis 500
Both have a long way to go. Newgarden starts in 32nd place on the 33-car grid, after a technical infringement last Sunday sent him to the back. Castroneves starts 22nd and has not been happy with his car in practice.
Taking the above into account, Fox Sports’ Bob Pockrass conducted a performance and betting analysis that leads us to some predictions that look very accurate.
Pato O’Ward, Overall Winner
O’Ward has finished second in two of the last three Indianapolis 500s, and crashed out while battling for second late in the race in 2023. The Arrow McLaren driver has his best starting position of third
This prediction may be more heartfelt than rational. Yes, I know it can be dangerous. But sometimes you just have that feeling. What does the saying go? You have to lose one to win another. Some would say he has lost three.
PICK: Pato O’Ward (+500) to win the Indianapolis 500
Alex Palou, Absolute Winner
Yes, I am betting on Palou as another possible rookie winner. And no, he has never won on an oval. But considering that he has won four of the first five races this year and that he starts from the outside of the second row, he is in a position to stay at the front
He and the Ganassi team have been flawless this year, and that’s what it takes in this race. And he’s been extremely fast in practice.
Alex Palou (+600) to win the Indianapolis 500
Scott McLaughlin’s position
McLaughlin has a spare car, but it’s a new one, designed specifically for a circuit. He starts 10th and, although he has a new strategist after Penske’s leadership overhaul in INDYCAR this week, he will be strong.
Scott McLaughlin (+400) to win the pole position for the Indianapolis 500
Kyle Kirkwood’s show
He starts 23rd, but has enjoyed his car a lot during practice. The only day the Andretti driver did not feel good with his car was qualifying day
The race is different from qualifying, and if you’re looking for a slightly more remote opportunity, Kirkwood is your man.
SELECTION: Kyle Kirkwood (+800) to compete in Indy 500
