How to get tickets to the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup

32 of the greatest soccer clubs from around the world will head to the USA for the FIFA Club World Cup which runs from June 14 through July 13 in stadiums across the country. Unlike the regular World Cup – which will take place in 2026 and pits national teams against each other — the Club World Cup features individual club teams from the world’s most prestigious soccer federations. The top 32 teams that qualify are then drawn into eight groups of four. Group winners and runners-up will then advance into a knockout round of 16, and then quarterfinals, semifinals, and a championship final taking place on July 13 at Met Life Stadium in New Jersey.

31 of these teams qualified for the tournament by winning or placing in a continental title tournament over the last four years, however, there’s one exception: Inter Miami has not won a title but they’ve qualified because a spot has been reserved for a team representing the host nation. Which means that, barring any injuries or extenuating circumstances, MLS’s star player Lionel Messi will be there.

Ben Greenhalgh won a TV show, joined Mourinho’s Inter and lost his Champions League medal on a golf course

“And next he’s gonna meet the big boss, Jose Mourinho. I think it will finally sink in that he’s an Inter Milan player when he’s given that shirt,” Jamie Redknapp, the former England midfielder and Sky presenter, says.Ben Greenhalgh laughs as he remembers what happens next. “I nearly leave Mourinho hanging in a minute!”AdvertisementWe are watching a rerun of Football’s Next Star, the television show that was broadcast on Sky One in 2010 with the prize of a six-month contract at Inter for the winner. More than 7,000 boys entered before being whittled down to the final 10, who stayed together in a villa overlooking Lake Como.“Every week, it was a case of, ‘We want to be here next week, and that’s all we were fighting for’,” Greenhalgh says. “I don’t think we were ever fighting for who was going […]

The player we can’t write about and football’s ‘systemic failure’ to deal with sexual violence

Faith loves her football club and has followed their ups and downs for as long as she can remember. But her love has been tested in recent seasons by their refusal to suspend a player who has been accused of sexual assault by four different women.First arrested and questioned by police in July 2022, the player was questioned twice more in 2023 and now it’s up to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), the public agency that conducts criminal prosecutions in England and Wales, to decide whether he should be charged with the alleged offences.AdvertisementIn the meantime, he has continued to play — and play well — for his Premier League team, but his presence in the side has been difficult for Faith to witness.“For the first time in my life, I watched a game and I didn’t even want us […]

Is Champions League money making Europe’s domestic football uncompetitive?

For all that this season marks a new epoch in the tale of booming UEFA prize money, cash will be far from the thoughts of Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday evening in Munich. Luis Enrique and his players sit on the cusp of the club’s first Champions League success, a prize both coveted and elusive since the French club were taken over by Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) almost 15 years ago.AdvertisementSince that date, QSI has poured billions into transforming a team that, in an albeit truncated existence since they were formed in 1970, had only won the French league twice. Eleven more championships have followed in the subsequent 14 seasons, with PSG’s domestic ventures rarely even resembling a proper competition. A comparison of Ligue 1 wage bills, that great financial barometer of on-field performance, has long required two scales — one […]
