The Los Angeles Dodgers are shoring up their reliever depth and acquiring former All-Star Alexis Díaz from the Cincinnati Reds, a league source told The Athletic.
Díaz is not expected to report to the Dodgers immediately and is instead expected to report to Triple-A Oklahoma City, the source said. But his acquisition comes in the wake of the Dodgers having each of their top five expected right-handed relief options — Blake Treinen, Evan Phillips, Kirby Yates, Michael Kopech and Brusdar Graterol — all on the injured list. The Dodgers have asked their bullpen to cover 239 2/3 innings, the most in the major leagues.

The Dodgers are reportedly sending Mike Villani, their 13th-round selection last year, to the Reds in return.
Díaz, the brother of New York Mets All-Star closer Edwin Díaz, allowed eight runs in six innings (six appearances) this season before the Reds sent him down to Triple-A Louisville. He had a 2.93 ERA over 190 appearances over the three preceding seasons, including an All-Star-worthy 2023 where he had a 3.07 ERA and 37 saves in 71 appearances. The 28-year-old also missed the start of the season due to a hamstring strain.
