Damals ließ sich der Norweger so zitieren: „Schach und Rallye haben mehr gemeinsam als man vermutet. Beides erfordert höchste Konzentration und Präzision. Und man muss immer zwei Schritte vorausschauen.“
Diese Meinung hat er allerdings nicht von der Formel 1: „Die ist ziemlich langatmig, und die meisten Leute verstehen nicht wirklich, was passiert. Die Leute schauen sie wegen der Persönlichkeiten und der Werbung.“
