La Fórmula 1 aterriza al primer triplete de la temporada -parte del mítico trazado de Suzuka- con una constante clara durante las dos primeras citas. McLaren y el MCL-39 son los enemigos a batir, y su pareja de pilotos está en la primera fila de candidatos al título mundial. Las victorias de Lando Norris (Australia) y Oscar Piastri (China), además del dominio en ritmo y degradación en las dos citas, les confieren un lugar único para llegar al Gran Premio de Japón: son la referencia clara. El dominio de McLaren puede traducirse en una batalla directa entre los dos jóvenes pilotos del equipo británico. De allí surgen estrategias como las ‘Papaya Rules’ -reglas papaya- para evitar conflictos y señalar a un líder. Lando Norris las descartó antes de empezar la temporada, pero si la campaña sigue así, llegarán los problemas. Tarde o temprano. Y si la historia es cíclica, habrá morbo.
Si McLaren tiene una pelea real en Suzuka, volverá al recuerdo la leyenda negra del equipo en Japón. Es un circuito de ‘pilotos’ y los mejores de la historia en la estructura de Woking contactaron cuando eran, con claridad, la referencia de la categoría. Se trata, obviamente, de la historia de Ayrton Senna y Alain Prost, la mejor pareja de todos los tiempos de la F1, y una rivalidad que estalló en Suzuka. McLaren arrasaba en 1989 y sus pilotos montaron una guerra, en todos los sentidos, que explotó en suelo asiático.

Senna embistió a Prost en la salida y el francés perdió sus opciones de título para celebración del héroe de la ‘verdeamarela’.

Lo que es la historia. McLaren vivió ese episodio de ‘leyenda negra’ en Suzuka y vuelve a Japón en un lugar parecido por momento de forma. Son dominantes.
