Nemanja Matić, který na Old Trafford působil pět let a dnes patří mezi klíčové postavy pátého týmu francouzské ligy, byl na Onanova slova dotázán. Jeho odpověď byla nekompromisní.
„Pokud jste jedním z nejhorších brankářů v historii Manchesteru United, měl byste se starat sám o sebe,“ nešetřil kamerunského brankáře šestatřicetiletý středopolař.
„Kdyby to řekl David de Gea, Peter Schmeichel nebo Edwin van der Sar, mlčel bych. Ale Onana je statisticky jedním z nejhorších gólmanů, co kdy za United chytali. Měl by víc přemýšlet, než něco takového vypustí z pusy,“ pokračoval někdejší hráč Chelsea a United.
A co vlastně Onana řekl, že vyvolal takovou odezvu?
Po víkendovém manchesterském derby, v němž udržel čisté konto proti City (0:0), byl dotázán na nadcházející duel Evropské ligy. Odpověděl s velkou dávkou sebevědomí – možná až příliš velkou vzhledem k postavení United v tabulce Premier League. Aktuálně týmu trenéra Amorima patří až třináctá příčka.
„Samozřejmě to nebude snadné, ale myslím, že jsme mnohem lepší. Není to naše nejlepší sezona, ale stále máme co vyhrát a s tím do toho půjdeme,“ prohlásil.
Později se Onana ke své původní výpovědi vrátil na sociálních sítích.
„Nikdy bych nebyl neuctivý k jinému klubu. Moc dobře víme, že nás čeká těžký zápas proti silnému soupeři,“ napsal ve svém příspěvku.
Rýpnutí si však kamerunský brankář neodpustil ani tentokrát. „Alespoň jsem zvedl nad hlavu trofej s největším klubem na světě. Někteří to říct nemohou,“ dodal pod fotografii, na níž pózuje s FA Cupem, který s United vyhrál v minulé sezoně.

Matić sice na Old Trafford po svém přestupu z Chelsea za necelých 47 milionů eur žádnou trofej nevyhrál, srbského záložníka to však nejspíš příliš nemrzí. V dresu Chelsea totiž získal vše, co se na anglické scéně dá – dvakrát se radoval z mistrovského titulu, jednou z triumfu v FA Cupu i v anglickém ligovém poháru.
První díl názorové přestřelky mezi současnou a bývalou oporou United přijde na řadu už ve čtvrtek ve 21:00, kdy se Manchester představí na stadionu Lyonu. Odveta je v plánu na další týden na stadionu Old Trafford.
