Everton women’s head coach Brian Sorensen is in advanced talks over a new contract.
Though discussions over an extension are progressing, nothing is yet signed and an announcement is not expected imminently.
Sorensen was appointed head coach in the summer of 2022 and signed a new two-year deal last April, which runs until June 2026. The 44-year-old Dane led Everton to sixth- and eighth-place finishes respectively in the 2022-23 and 2023-24 Women’s Super League (WSL) seasons.

Sorensen’s assistant, Stephen Neligan, is also close to extending his stay. The Australian has worked alongside Sorensen since 2020 at Danish clubs FC Nordsjælland and Fortuna Hjorring.
Sorensen is deeply admired within the club and amongst his staff and squad, particularly the manner in which he has regularly steered the women’s team away from threats of relegation despite working with a limited budget and squad resources. Sorensen is contently settled in Liverpool, regularly bringing his daughter to matches.
Everton’s new owner, The Friedkin Group (TFG), has been impressed with recent performances since its takeover in December.
The Merseyside club were bottom of the WSL in mid-November, only picking up their first win of the campaign with a 1-0 victory against Liverpool at Goodison Park. But they brought in six new players in the winter transfer window, including midfielder Hayley Ladd from Manchester United and France striker Kelly Gago from FC Nantes, and have since won three of their last six matches, rising to eighth in the WSL, three points behind fifth-placed Brighton & Hove Albion and 10 points above the relegation zone.
Everton are keen to get a new deal over the line as part of the next step in the women’s team’s new era under TFG. The new owners are also considering the long-term relocation of the women’s team from the rented facilities of Walton Hall Park to Goodison Park following the men’s senior team’s move to the new, 52,888-capacity stadium on the waterfront at Bramley-Moore Dock.
Sorensen is already the second-longest serving manager in the WSL behind Manchester United’s Marc Skinner, who signed a new two-year deal earlier this month. Skinner has led United since July 2021. In the past 12 months, there have been eight managerial changes in the English top flight.
Everton are back in action on Sunday when they travel to fourth-placed Manchester City in the WSL.
