Dodger Stadium will host the Olympic baseball tournament in Los Angeles in 2028, the Games’ organizing committee announced Tuesday, one of several newly confirmed venues that are set to embrace the city’s sprawl.
The 2028 Olympic program will stretch 80 miles from the Sepulveda Basin south to San Clemente and 50 miles from Venice Beach east to Pomona, encompassing a wide swath of Southern California.

“We’ve promised the world an incredible Olympic Games and today we’re proud to share the plan that will make it happen,” LA28 CEO Reynold Hoover said in a press release. “… The 2028 Olympic venue plan invites communities from across the region to celebrate the Games coming to their backyard.”
For baseball, it’s a return to the stadium that hosted it as a demonstration sport in the 1984 Games. It was an official medal sport from 1992-2008 and again in 2020. Major League Baseball has not allowed its players to compete in the past, though commissioner Rob Manfred has said the idea is being discussed for L.A.
Also announced Tuesday, 3×3 basketball and modern pentathlon will join BMX and skateboarding in the vast Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area, 20 miles northwest of downtown L.A. In 3×3’s third Olympic appearance, both the men’s and women’s tournaments will expand from eight teams to 12.
Beach volleyball, once planned for Santa Monica, instead will go south to Long Beach’s Alamitos Beach, with the Queen Mary off in the distance. Coastal rowing will also happen along the waterfront in Long Beach.
Surfing will be at Trestles Beach in San Clemente, 60 miles south of downtown. That’s about 9,740 miles closer than the sport was to the heart of the Paris Olympics last year, when surfing was contested in Tahiti.
Boxing, after nearly dropping off the Olympic program, will host its preliminary rounds at the Peacock Theater in downtown L.A., with the finals moving across the street to Crypto.com Arena, where the NBA’s Lakers and NHL’s Kings play.
Anaheim’s Honda Center, home of the NHL’s Ducks, will host indoor volleyball.
Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, the famed track 17 miles northeast of downtown that often hosts the Breeders Cup, will be the home of equestrian events.
The triathlon will unfold in Venice Beach. The men’s and women’s marathons and road cycling will start there too.
Other venues announced Tuesday include:
- For cricket, making its Olympic debut, a temporary structure at the fairgrounds in Pomona, about 30 miles east of downtown L.A.;
- For squash, also an Olympic newcomer, the Universal Studios lot in Universal City, just above the Hollywood Hills;
- For sport climbing, the parking lot of the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center, 25 miles south of downtown, with the Pacific Ocean as the backdrop;
- For archery, Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, near Long Beach;
- For rhythmic gymnastics, USC’s Galen Center in downtown L.A.;
- For target shooting, inside Long Beach’s convention center;
- For shotgun shooting, the LA Clays gun range in South El Monte, east of downtown;
Several other venues were confirmed earlier. SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, home of the NFL’s Rams and Chargers, will host swimming in a temporary pool, similar to the setup for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Artistic gymnastics will be held at Crypto.com Arena before boxing moves in. Track and field will be at the L.A. Coliseum on USC’s campus.
The men’s and women’s basketball tournaments are headed to the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, home of the NBA’s Clippers.

Oklahoma City will host softball and canoe slalom, the only two events planned outside Southern California.
The venues’ familiar sponsor names will be dropped during the Olympics. Crypto.com Arena, for instance, is being referred to as the “Arena in Downtown Los Angeles.”
Also Tuesday, the format for the new mixed golf event was announced. It will be a 36-hole competition — 18 holes of foursomes (alternate shot) for the first round and 18 holes of four-ball (best ball) for the final round. Each country is allowed one team, and each team consists of one male and one female player. The event is part of several additions to the L.A. program announced last week.
