Wenn Real Madrid am Mittwochabend gegen Arsenal (0:3 im Hinspiel des Champions-League-Viertelfinals) um den Erhalt seines Traumes vom Königsklassen-Titel kämpft, wird für die Madrilenen ein Mann an der Seitenlinie stehen, der nach eigenem Wunsch in der Premier League eine Ära hatte prägen wollen.
Im Gespräch mit dem italienischen Journalisten Armando Ceroni auf dem Schweizer Sender „RSI“ verriet Carlo Ancelotti jetzt: „Mein Traum war es, Liverpool zu trainieren. Aber dann fand ich mich bei Everton wieder und erlebte die Rivalität der beiden Klubs. Jetzt bin ich ein absoluter Everton-Fan.“
Ancelotti gilt als einer der besten Fußballtrainer aller Zeiten. In seiner Karriere gewann er bislang 31 Titel. Seine Premier-League-Reise begann 2009 bei Chelsea. Zwei Spielzeiten lang führte er die „Blues“ an, holte den Premier-League-Titel und den FA Cup.
[–>Nach Chelsea übernahm er Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, Bayern München und Napoli, bevor er 2019 erneut in die Premier League zurückkehrte. Diesmal zu Everton, wo er bis 2021 blieb.
Ancelotti schwärmte von der Leidenschaft der Everton-Fans. „Ich mochte es sehr dort, weil die Fans so spektakulär mitfiebern und –leiden. Man merkt überall die Rivalität mit Liverpool, der seit vielen Jahren und bis heute der beste Klub in der Premier League ist.“
Everton und Liverpool liefern sich im traditionellen „Merseyside Derby“ seit Jahren umkämpfte Duelle. Beide Stadion liegen nur etwas mehr als einen Kilometer voneinander entfernt.
