Ashton Jeanty has been one of the names consistently linked to the Dallas Cowboys throughout the 2025 NFL Draft process. And it’s no surprise- the former Boise State running back had a historic campaign that also earned him a spot as a Heisman Trophy finalist.
His skills and achievements have positioned him as the top running back in his class, an asset that could be on the Cowboys‘ radar, as the position is one of their needs.

Ashton Jeanty’s unusual encounter with Jerry Jones
The running back was a guest on the “Up & Adams” show, where he said it would be a “special opportunity” to play for Dallas, adding that it would be great to play for any team, but doing so for the Cowboys would feel different since he grew up there.
When asked if he had the chance to meet Jerry Jones, Jeanty confirmed he had, and the conversation took an intriguing turn.
The host asked what the Dallas Cowboys owner was like in person and whether he was truly “a larger-than-life cartoon character.” Jeanty agreed and shared that, upon entering the room, he saw Jones holding a championship belt, “just staring at it.”
Despite the odd encounter, the prospect described it as a positive experience.
Ashton Jeanty is a local prospect who played high school football in Frisco, so joining the Dallas Cowboys would feel like coming home.
If Jerry Jones‘ team wants to select Jeanty, they would need to be prepared to use their No. 12 overall pick, though there’s no guarantee he’ll still be available at that point in the draft.
It’s also unlikely that such a high pick would be used on a running back, but many believe Ashton Jeanty would be well worth it.
Other teams, like the Las Vegas Raiders, have Ashton Jeanty on their radar, but in the NFL Draft, anything can happen.
