No auge de sua carreira, Vanderlei Luxemburgo foi convidado a assumir o comando do Real Madrid em dezembro de 2004, um ano depois era demitido após desentendimento com o presidente Florentino Perez. Para o veterano treinador, esse foi o maior erro que cometeu na vida.
“A experiência traz sabedoria. A pior decisão da minha vida eu tomei com 52 anos. Sai do Real Madrid por uma intempestividade minha com o presidente”, admitiu Luxa, em entrevista ao “CNN Esportes S/A”.
Luxemburgo foi questionado pelo presidente do Real Madrid sobre algumas decisões em campo e retrucou dizendo que ele era o treinador e ele é quem tomava as decisões. Resultado: foi demitido.
“Hoje, com 72 anos, eu colocaria mão no ombro dele e diria: ‘Vamos jantar amanhã e a gente conversa’. Então, a experiência te dá ensinamentos”, avaliou o veterano treinador.
Luxemburgo vai voltar quando ao futebol?
Ainda durante o programa na CNN, Luxemburgo foi questionado sobre a chance de voltar a trabalhar com o futebol.
Segundo ele, as ofertas são frequentes, mas a decisão de voltar ainda não está definida.
“Eu ando meio afastado, e tive muitas propostas para voltar ao futebol. Essa é uma discussão minha com a minha família: volto ou não volto? Tem a possibilidade de eu ser candidato pelo estado de Tocantins, entrar para política, acho que eu poderia fazer alguma coisa para a população”, revelou o treinador.
“Eu não sei. Voltar aonde? Como? Por quê? Voltar aonde? Para discutir o quê? Então assim, voltar ao futebol, mas onde que caberia para eu voltar?”, questionou Luxemburgo.
O último trabalho do treinador foi em 2023, no comando do Corinthians.
Treinadores brasileiros defasados?
Luxemburgo também criticou uma parte da imprensa brasileira que, segundo ele, contribui para a sensação de que os técnicos brasileiros estão defasados em relação aos gringos.
“Parte da imprensa bate nisso de que hoje os técnicos do Brasil estão ultrapassados. Isso me deixa muito revoltado, porque o maior exemplo de todos os tempos do futebol brasileiro e mundial foi o Zagallo na Copa do Mundo de 1970. Como é que nós estamos ultrapassados se o Zagallo em 1970 jogava como se joga hoje?”, finalizou.
