In a move first reported by Horns247 last week, Texas basketball coach Rodney Terry was fired following Texas’ loss to Xavier in the First Four. The Longhorns moved quickly to replace him with the man who defeated Texas in that game, Xavier head coach Sean Miller, who was confirmed as the hire on Monday. The college basketball transfer portal opened the same day, and now the Texas basketball roster news will come in quickly since late March and early April have become a critical time on the calendar.

What will the 2025-26 Texas basketball roster look like, and who will come and go via the Texas basketball transfer portal? If you love the Longhorns, or want the latest roster updates and college basketball transfer portal news, be sure to see what the proven team of insiders are saying at Horns247, the 247Sports affiliate that covers Texas.

Horns247 has two of the most experienced journalists in the Texas market in Chip Brown and Jeff Howe. They have broken countless stories over the last two decades. Texas basketball roster news

Despite squeezing into the NCAA Tournament, Texas finished near the bottom in the 2024-25 SEC basketball standings at just 6-12 in the conference. That means a roster overhaul is likely in store. Regardless of the coach, freshman guard Tre Johnson was always expected to be a one-and-done player, so the likely first-round pick in the 2025 NBA Draft can be penciled in as a departure even without a formal announcement yet.

Forwards Arthur Kaluma, Jayson Kent and Kadin Shedrick are among the notable players who are out of eligibility. In terms of returning production, all eyes will be on guards Jordan Pope and Tramon Mack, both of whom have eligibility remaining. The third and fourth leading scorers, respectively, would both be in line to handle a lot more of the scoring load assuming Johnson departs.

Expect the front court to be a priority for Miller in the Texas transfer portal. The Longhorns were 148th nationally in rebounding rate in 2024-25 and return no big men who played a substantial number of minutes. Get the latest Texas basketball roster news at Horns247.

How to get insider Texas basketball roster updates

Miller is expected to go after some huge names in the transfer portal, and the Horns247 staff has identified one of his former players who could be a “tailor-made replacement” for a departing star. You can only see who it is at Horns247.

Who are the top names Texas basketball is pursuing under coach Sean Miller, and which one of his former players could give the Longhorns a huge boost? Go to Horns247 to see their insider information, all from a team of reporters with decades of experience covering the Longhorns, and find out.
