Memphis v dobře rozehrané sezoně začal tápat, když z posledních šesti zápasů porazil jen slabý Utah. I proto se vedení klubu rozhodlo překvapivě odvolat kouče Jenkinse a velkou šanci dostal trenér Iisalo, který byl v Evropě velmi úspěšný s Bonnem a Paříží. Na velké změny zatím neměl čas, ale v poločase se mu povedlo tým dobře nastartovat, protože ztrátu 11 bodů dokázal Memphis smazat šňůrou 16:4 a ujal se vedení. Hned vzápětí ale odpověděly hvězdy Lakers a vzaly si vedení zpět. Grizzlies ještě vedli 111:107, ale posledních osm minut patřilo Lakers.
Prvenství v základní části už má na dosah Oklahoma City, která zvítězila 132:111 nad Indianou a po deváté výhře v řadě už má náskok tří výher na druhý nejlepší tým soutěže Cleveland. Do konce zbývá oběma týmům odehrát osm zápasů. Thunder opět táhl Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, který 33 body potvrdil pozici nejlepšího střelce soutěže. Na prvním místě má náskok 2,7 bodu na druhého Janise Adetokunba, což už by měl udržet a poprvé v kariéře se stát nejlepším střelcem sezony. Hráči Oklahoma City se to naposledy povedlo v roce 2017, kdy kraloval Russell Westbrook.
Thunder jsou navíc už jen dvě vítězství od vyrovnání nejlepší sezony v historii klubu z roku 1996, kdy tým ještě sídlil v Seattlu. Pokud by vyhráli všechna zbylá utkání, stanou se teprve třetím týmem v historii, který získá v sezoně 70 výher. Dosud se to povedlo jen Golden State v roce 2016 a Chicagu Bulls v roce 1996. Zatím Oklahoma City vyrovnala rekord v počtu výher proti týmům z opačné konference. Se soupeři z Východní konference mají nyní Thunder bilanci 27 výher a jediné porážky.
Obhájce titulu Boston vyhrál poosmé za sebou, když zdolal San Antonio na jeho hřišti 121:111. Jayson Tatum k tomu přispěl 29 body a 10 doskoky. Celtics měli koncovku pod kontrolou a nepustili Spurs na dosah. Potvrdili tak, že jsou nejlepším týmem soutěže na soupeřových hřištích s bilancí 31 výher a 7 porážek.
Po skvělém obratu proti Lakers se Chciago pokoušelo zvrátit i zápas s Dallasem, ve kterém prohrávalo dvě minuty před koncem o devět bodů.
