Mumbai Indians home advantage not easy to tackle, says KKR head coach Chandrakant Pandit

KKR Chandrakant PanditMumbai: The Kolkata Knight Riders head coach Chandrakant Pandit spoke confidently ahead of their upcoming clash against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday, March 31.

The match will be KKR’s third in the TATA IPL 2025, following an impressive eight-wicket victory over the Rajasthan Royals in their previous game in Guwahati. In contrast, Mumbai Indians are searching for form after losing their two opening matches of the season.

When discussing the Mumbai Indians’ bowling attack, Pandit acknowledged they would miss Jasprit Bumrah but cautioned against taking the rest of their bowling lineup lightly. “Bumrah makes a difference to Mumbai, but their other bowlers are also quite capable,” Pandit noted.

The KKR coach believes his team can capitalise on Mumbai’s poor start but will be wary of home advantage. “More than anything, I’m focused on how well our team played in the last game. Unfortunately, Mumbai Indians haven’t been performing at that level, which gives us another advantage to put pressure on them. However, since the game is in Mumbai, we need to adapt quickly to the conditions here, and that’s what we’ve been planning for. I’m confident we’ll be able to do that,” he said.

Speaking about Rahane’s leadership, Pandit praised his captain’s ability to remain calm under pressure. “Everyone is aware of Rahane’s capabilities. He’s not just leading KKR, but he’s also captained the Mumbai team and India. He possesses diverse leadership skills and approaches. He also had an excellent season in the domestic circuit, and you could see his confidence in our first game. He’s highly respected within the team. People particularly mention how calm and composed he remains when handling difficult situations,” Pandit remarked.

The coach also expressed satisfaction with Quinton de Kock’s recent performance, where he scored an unbeaten 97 to lead the team to victory. Head coach Pandit noted that his aggressive approach in the powerplay provides the team with strong momentum. “The way Quinton has started this tournament has been impressive. His confidence level, especially in T20 cricket, is remarkable. Having someone who can attack in the first six overs makes a difference for the entire team. That’s the quality he brings,” Pandit remarked.

Head coach Pandit also confirmed that KKR star Sunil Narine has fully recovered from his injury and will be available for selection after practicing with the team.

As KKR aim to maintain their winning momentum against a struggling Mumbai Indians side, Monday’s encounter at Wankhede shapes up as a compelling early-season contest in TATA IPL 2025.
About Kolkata Knight Riders
The Knight Riders brand is a global brand in International Cricket, with eight trophies to its name and four professional franchises under its wings – Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the TATA IPL, Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) in the Caribbean Premier League, Abu Dhabi Knight Riders (ADKR) in UAE’s International League T20 and Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR) in USA’s Major League Cricket, making it one of the most versatile brands in T20 cricket globally.

KKR has made four appearances in the TATA IPL final, winning the championship thrice (2012, 2014, 2024). They finished runners-up in the 2021 season, staging one of the most remarkable comebacks in the tournament’s history. TKR’s Men’s Team has won the CPL championship 4 times in 10 years since the Knight Riders took over the franchise. They are the most successful team in the Caribbean and hold a unique feat of having won the trophy in 2020 without losing a single game in the whole tournament. TKR Women, the Knight Riders’ first ever Women’s Team, were champions of the inaugural WCPL in 2022.

For many years now, the Knight Riders Academy has been actively scouting talented cricketers from across India and around the world. The sole objective of the Academy is to identify and help cricketers make an overall round-the-year improvement in their cricketing skills and fitness.

Alejandro Kirk comes through for Blue Jays: ‘I needed it, the team needed it’

Editor’s note: We’re thrilled to introduce Mitch Bannon as our Blue Jays beat writer. A native of Toronto, he previously covered the team for SI.com. This is his first story for The Athletic.NEW YORK — Opportunity hasn’t been Alejandro Kirk’s problem. The Blue Jays’ catcher has walked to the plate 27 times this season with a runner in scoring position, constantly a swing away from igniting an offense that badly needs a spark.AdvertisementTaking advantage of those chances has been the hard part. A month after signing a five-year, $58 million extension, Kirk entered Friday with just five RBI in the exact situations built for cashing in runs, with a man on second or third. He’d hit just .217 with runners in scoring position this year with a .544 OPS. On Friday, opportunity finally met execution. With a ninth-inning swing, Kirk came […]

2025 NFL Draft picks by college team, school: SEC, Big Ten separate from pack as Ohio State leads the way

Getty Images The first round of the 2025 NFL Draft was dominated by power conference schools, as the SEC and Big Ten were ubiquitous during Thursday night's action with 26 of the first 32 picks coming from the two most powerful conferences in the sport. That trend continued on Friday night during Day 2, as 21 more players from the SEC and Big Ten heard their names called in the 32 second-round picks. While not a surprise, it's a reminder of the direction college football is trending, as the transfer portal and the opportunity to cash in on NIL deals has made it far less likely that an NFL talent will make it through their junior year at a smaller program. In total, 66 of the 102 players selected in the first three rounds of the NFL Draft finished their collegiate careers […]

Every player will be given the opportunity to compete whether they are a first-round pick or seventh-round pick, but their paychecks will be very different.
