PALM BEACH, Fla. — After the 2024 season ended, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy said he wanted to finalize a long-term deal “sooner rather than later” and pointed to the start of the offseason program as the point he’d like to see it completed.
“I want to get it done quick. Just so we can get back for Phase 1, get after it with our receivers and our team,” he said. “I’m not the kind of guy that wants to have any kind of drama associated with anything.”

Though the offseason program begins in just a few weeks, general manager John Lynch said Monday at the NFL owners meetings that it was possible a deal would be finalized by then.
“I don’t think it’s too optimistic,” he said. “I understand why Brock wants that. We’d like that very much so. We’ve just got to find that right place for both sides. I would love nothing more for that to be the case.”
Of course, Lynch also suggested the deal might not get done at all this year. Purdy still has one more season left on his very affordable rookie contract, which appears to be something the team is using as leverage in negotiations.
“Brock wants to be with us,” Lynch said. “We want Brock to be with us. When that’s the case, these things typically get done. And does it happen this offseason? I don’t know. Hopefully, it happens real soon this offseason.”
Lynch was then pressed on whether he thought Purdy would actually play on a $5 million deal, the value of the final year of his rookie deal.
“I think we’re gonna get the deal done,” he said in response. “That’s what I believe. So we’ll just leave it at that.”
