Após ser eliminado do Masters 1000 de Miami na terceira rodada, o brasileiro João Fonseca, sensação do tênis do Brasil, atingiu, nesta segunda-feira, a melhor posição no ranking ATP de sua carreira. O tenista de 18 anos subiu uma posição em relação à última lista divulgada e aparece em 59º lugar do ranking mundial.
Depois de uma sequência de torneios em quadras rápidas, o brasileiro tirou um período de férias para descansar junto de sua família. Na sequência, João treinará no saibro para se readaptar à superfície, onde disputará o Masters 1000 de Madri, disputado de 21 de abril a 4 de maio.
— Estou de férias agora. Tenho uma semana, vou voltar para o Rio para descansar junto com a família e a namorada. Depois, treino no saibro por mais duas semanas e volto — disse João, em entrevista à ESPN.
João Fonseca vem competindo em alto nível desde quando foi campeão do Next Gen ATP Finals, em dezembro de 2024. A partir disso, o tenista brasileiro vem melhorando sua colocação no ranking e, desde a primeira lista divulgada no dia 6 de janeiro de 2025, ele já subiu 54 posições.
