Prince Harry is facing backlash after reports surfaced that he sent an “imperious” and “unpleasant” message to Dr. Sophie Chandauka, the chair of his charity, Sentebale. The alleged message came after she refused to publicly defend Meghan Markle following an awkward incident at a polo event in April 2024.
The controversy stems from a widely circulated video in which Meghan appeared to reposition Dr. Chandauka away from Prince Harry during a trophy presentation at the Royal Salute Polo Challenge in Florida. The clip sparked speculation about tension between the two women.

Dr. Chandauka revealed that Harry‘s team had asked her to issue a statement in support of Meghan to dismiss the rumors. When she declined, Harry allegedly messaged her directly, demanding an explanation. Sources claim the note’s tone was harsh, leaving Dr. Chandauka upset.
Meghan’s surprise appearance and the fallout
Dr. Chandauka has since spoken out about the event, revealing that Meghan’s appearance was unexpected. According to her, the Duchess had initially confirmed she would not attend but later arrived with tennis legend Serena Williams and a Netflix film crew.
This last-minute change reportedly caused logistical issues on stage, with too many people crowding the trophy presentation. Dr. Chandauka explained that the disorganization led to Meghan asking her to move, which was captured on camera and widely discussed in the media.
The situation further escalated when Dr. Chandauka refused to issue a statement in Meghan‘s defense, leading to tensions between her and Prince Harry. The dispute ultimately contributed to Harry‘s decision to resign from Sentebale, the charity he co-founded in 2006.
Dr. Chandauka has accused Harry of “harassment and bullying at scale,” claiming he attempted to remove her from the organization for months. She also referred to the Sussexes’ brand as “toxic,” a statement that has fueled further debate about their public image.
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams described the fallout as a significant loss for Harry, as Sentebale was one of the key charitable initiatives he founded in memory of his mother, Princess Diana. Fitzwilliams also pointed out that the allegations against Harry echo past accusations of bullying against Meghan-claims both have denied.
As the controversy continues, the incident highlights the growing divide between Harry and his once-cherished charity, raising questions about the long-term impact on his reputation.
