Seis años y casi siete meses llevaba el Sevilla sin perder un partido de LaLiga en el estadio Benito Villamarín. Aunque la racha debía caer por su propio peso más pronto que tarde, no dejaba de ser uno de los pequeños logros en los que venían amparándose los de Nervión. También era una de las últimas esperanzas de engancharse a la lucha europea esta temporada y, de paso, reconciliarse con su afición. Como ya le sucedió en la jornada anterior frente al Athletic, no es que los sevillistas cuajaran una mala actuación en general, sino que ante adversarios de mayor enjundia seguramente no les dé para más.

El Gran Derbi arrancó según el guión previsto. El Sevilla recurrió al contraataque con el fin de ser competitivo, un plan que al inicio salió bien con el gol de Rubén Vargas y amenazando seriamente la portería contraria. El suizo fue de los mejores de su equipo, pero su chispa se apagó deprisa. A partir de entonces, la falta de contundencia en las áreas condenó una vez más a los de rojo, que suelen pagar muy caros los despistes en defensa. Rivales como este Betis no perdonan y acaban demostrando (y aplicando) su superioridad futbolística. Al descanso los locales ya le habían dado la vuelta al marcador y apenas sufrieron hasta el pitido final.

Sin fútbol no hay gol

Al Sevilla actual le cuesta un mundo reaccionar a los golpes. Si en el primer tiempo del derbi ofreció una imagen bastante digna, en el segundo se vio su versión más pobre. “Hemos querido, no hemos podido, hemos tenido precipitación, hemos generado muy pocas ocasiones de gol, algún que otro centro por fuera, pero muy poco a nivel ofensivo para poder empatar el partido”, admitió García Pimienta, que volvió a echar en falta “esa frescura y esa calidad para salir con el balón”. En la misma línea se pronunció Loïc Badé. “Nos falta creatividad, creo que defensivamente en general tenemos buenas cosas, pero nos falta mucho ofensivamente”, insistía el francés.

Los puntos negativos más señalados de este Sevilla son la poca aportación goleadora de los delanteros y la escasez de fútbol en el centro del campo. Al margen de las individualidades en las bandas (seguramente lo mejor que tiene), la brega y el ímpetu son insuficientes para un club que pretende ganarse el derecho a competir por cosas importantes, como suele decir su entrenador. Cuando las defensas contrarias se le cierran, no parece haber nadie en la plantilla capaz de filtrar un pase en el último tercio del campo, al menos entre los que juegan habitualmente. Así se antoja complicado proponer un plan B.

Futuro difícil

La derrota frente al eterno rival deja muy tocado el proyecto del Sevilla. Continúa prácticamente sin vencer a los de arriba y el próximo fin de semana recibe al Atlético de Madrid, que no debe fallar en su pelea por el título de Liga. A falta de nueve jornadas para el final del curso, los hispalenses se quedan a cuatro puntos de las posiciones que podrían dar acceso a competición europea, algo que parece más barato que nunca. Por tanto, afrontan uno de sus momentos más delicados debido a las sensaciones y el riesgo de quedarse en tierra de nadie.

“Somos un equipo en construcción, porque hay mucha gente joven, mucha gente nueva, incluso en el cuerpo técnico”, comentaba García Pimienta conforme a lo que también se pensaba el pasado verano. Sin embargo, en el Sevilla y su entorno no están acostumbrados ni a años de transición ni a llegar a la recta final del campeonato sin objetivos deportivos. La única manera de recuperar cierta ilusión pasa por conseguir lo que no ha podido hasta ahora, encadenar dos o más triunfos seguidos. La pregunta que algunos todavía siguen haciéndose es si realmente está capacitado para ello.
