Getty Images Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman is out of the lineup for his team's Monday night game against the Atlanta Braves, Freeman's former team, after aggravating his surgically repaired right ankle. Manager Dave Roberts told reporters that the injury was the result of "mishap" while stepping into the shower and that Freeman is day to day. Instead, Enrique Hernández is in Roberts' Monday lineup at first base. Freeman initially suffered an ankle injury in late September of last year and missed the final three games of the regular season. However, he played through the discomfort in the playoffs and went on to win the World Series MVP award. NEW YORK — Everyone wants to talk about the torpedo bats, but the New York Yankees’ season-opening sweep of the undermanned Milwaukee Brewers was about a lot more than just bulbous lumber. Here are a few takeaways from the Bombers’ 3-0 start to 2025.Aaron Judge off to hot startJudge’s outrageous full-year numbers from 2024 — 58 homers, 1.159 OPS, 10.8 bWAR, arguably the best season ever by a right-handed hitter — make it easy to forget that he underwhelmed for most of March and April last year. Entering play on April 27, 27 games into the season, Judge had a .178 batting average, a .674 OPS and just four home runs in 123 plate appearances. It got so bad that during a four-strikeout game against Tampa Bay on April 20, the Yankees captain earned a shower of boos from the home […]

In Jon Scheyer, Duke has found college basketball’s next Coach K

<!--> Being the guy who replaces a legend can be tough. Jerod Mayo just became the latest example of a successor to an iconic head coach who failed, getting fired after one miserable season as the New England Patriots' head coach after succeeding Bill Belichick. In college basketball, there are countless examples of programs that haven't been able to succeed after their iconic head coach left. UCLA didn't win a national championship for two decades after John Wooden's departure in 1975, and the Bruins' 1995 title is the program's lone title in the last 50 years. Indiana has struggled over the last 25 years to get back to the heights that Bob Knight took them to during his nearly three-decade run as head coach.Three years after Mike Krzyzewski's retirement, Duke appears to be avoiding the same fate other blue bloods were […]
