The Philadelphia Eagles have popularized the “Tush Push” quarterback sneak in recent years, using a rugby-like variation of the play in multiple Super Bowl bids, including 2024’s historic championship. Simultaneously celebrated and derided on social media, the formation was briefly under official NFL review this week, with all 32 teams weighing the future of the play at this week’s owners meetings.

The Eagles have made their stance clear: They want the play to stick around. Head coach Nick Sirianni was vocal about it during February’s NFL Scouting Combine, then doubled down this week, saying the Eagles have worked hard to perfect the push, which has never resulted in serious injury.

Where do the other teams stand on the “Tush Push?” Officially speaking, a vote on the legality of the play was tabled for future discussions on Tuesday, as CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones confirmed. In the meantime, here’s a roundup of public opinion:

Teams in support of the ‘Tush Push’

  • Baltimore Ravens: Coach John Harbaugh labeled the push a “football play,” though he left the door open for a change of opinion if medical experts advise against it.
  • Carolina Panthers: Coach Dave Canales said there’s no data to suggest it’s a “definitely dangerous” play, arguing the Eagles have simply “mastered” the execution.
  • Cleveland Browns: Coach Kevin Stefanski said Tuesday he’s not in favor of “legislating [the play] out of the game,” suggesting the Browns might also use variations of the play in 2025.
  • Houston Texans: Coach DeMeco Ryans argued it’s “tough to punish a team for being really good at something,” signaling his support for the play’s inclusion.
  • Indianapolis Colts: Coach Shane Steichen previously served as Nick Sirianni’s offensive coordinator with the Eagles, where he oversaw use of the push play during a 2022 Super Bowl bid.
  • New England Patriots: New coach Mike Vrabel has been “passionate” about supporting the play behind closed doors, per ESPN, and wants to keep it in the game.
  • New Orleans Saints: New coach Kellen Moore, another former Nick Sirianni assistant, said he’s “comfortable” with the play, noting the lack of evidence of serious injury risk.
  • New York Jets: New coach Aaron Glenn indicated it’s his job to “stop that play,” not ban it. He gave credit to the Eagles for “creating a good play that’s hard” to defend.
  • Philadelphia Eagles: Coach Nick Sirianni said the Eagles work “so hard” to master the fundamentals of the play, arguing it’d be “unfair” to ban the push because other teams aren’t as successful with it.

What is the ‘Tush Push?’ How Eagles execute the play, why they run it so well, and how other teams fare

Teams opposed to the ‘Tush Push’

  • Atlanta Falcons: Coach Raheem Morris went on record, as he’s done previously, describing his dislike for the play — and for what his team must do to stop it.
  • Buffalo Bills: Coach Sean McDermott said Tuesday he’s concerned with player safety on the push play, “even though there’s not significant [medical] data out there to this point.”
  • Dallas Cowboys: Co-owner Stephen Jones indicated Dallas will vote against the push, desiring “consistency” in rule enforcement, as linebackers aren’t currently permitted to push defensive linemen when defending extra points.
  • Green Bay Packers: The only team to officially propose a ban of the play this spring, the Packers cited player safety and “pace of play” as reasons for eliminating the push. General manager Brian Gutekunst said Tuesday that NFL medical professionals have “high concerns” about the potential for “catastrophic injuries” with the play.
  • Los Angeles Rams: Coach Sean McVay said he hopes the play is banned primarily because he doesn’t like the “optics” of the push, saying it “doesn’t look like football to me.”

2025 NFL Draft winners and losers: Shedeur Sanders falls into both categories, Tom Brady makes the list

Getty Images After 257 picks, the 2025 NFL Draft is officially in the books. The draft started on Thursday with the Browns doing something crazy, and it ended on Saturday with the Browns also doing something crazy, so in a way, the draft truly came full circle. The first round started with a blockbuster trade between Cleveland and Jacksonville that saw the Jaguars move up from the fifth pick to the second overall spot so they could take Travis Hunter. Although Hunter went second overall, one player who had to wait longer than expected to get drafted was Hunter's college teammate at Colorado, Shedeur Sanders. Not only did he fall out of the first round, but he ended up falling all the way to the fifth round before the Browns took him with the 144th overall pick. For this draft, Sanders was both […]

El Clasico: What wild Copa del Rey final win means for FC Barcelona, and what loss means for Real Madrid

Getty Images After FC Barcelona won 3-2 against Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey final, in what was a wild 120 minutes of play, it's now time to think about what's next at both clubs, especially at Real Madrid, where there will be even more doubts about the future of Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti, who looks increasingly likely to end his successful spell at the Spanish club after winning 15 trophies. Despite the success, Real Madrid are facing the risk of ending the current 2024-25 season with no trophies, and this might lead the club's president, Florentino Perez, to look for another coach in the summer. Giants 2025 NFL Draft takeaways: The wait begins. When will Jaxson Dart be ready?

The silver lining to a horrible 2024 New York Giants season was that it set up a fascinating offseason build-up to the 2025 NFL Draft. Bears 2025 NFL Draft takeaways: Newcomers reflect Ben Johnson’s vision, energy

LAKE FOREST, Ill. — Defensive tackle Shemar Turner was the Bears’ fourth pick of the NFL Draft — and their third in the second round — but he quickly became a headliner with his news conferences.
